I would be bringing a tent. Is firewood permitted? How is the fishing in the Fall?

You can check these websites for camping grounds. They are for private and the state sites. I have not been to the outer banks as of yet but I do have it on my camping list for next year!
Most of the campgrounds will have the rules posted on their websites or will let you know when you call to make reservations.
Ask all the questions up front before you get there so you don't get blind sided or surprises by anything.

12 girls won't fit in one camping tent. I believe REI rents 5 or 6 man family style tents, at least where I live. So you might have to rent two.

Well if its a campsite they probably have bathrooms! And than its no big deal :) Just bring extra pads and/or tampons. If you need to use the bathroom go use it. I promise you will be absolutely fine! And if its a good friend you can tell her :) it happens with every girl and again is not a big deal. Have you ever been camping before? Well if you have you would know there are bathrooms at campsites hun :D if its in the woods than when you have to change you pad/tampon just go in the tent and take it out and change it! bring a trash bag in your suitcase for used ones if you feel the need :) hope i helped!
