Where to camp in key west?

best tent camping key west image

Gordon

I want to go the key west in may and set up a tent somewhere and camp out. The idea would be to set up tent right there on a beach but I know that that is not realistic.... Are there areas to camp?

Answer
Try Bahia Honda State Park, right on one of the islands, fairly close to Key West. Most of the campgrounds are geared towards RV's.

On your way down you could stop by John Pennakamp SP and pick-up a state park listing. Or better yet, go to Reserve Americas web site, that is where all reservations are made.

As for camping on the beach, I would contact the Key West Police. I have included the police department and a list of some campgrounds.

Good Luck

are there any keys in Florida that i can kayak to and camp?

Jason

I want to go to the Keys and kayak to a small key then camp for a few days with my wife and dogs. I would prefer a small island with none else on it. I know that last time i drove down to key west i noticed some tents on small nearby keys I just don't want to drive there and not be able to do what we want or worse get in trouble by the law. Is this something that can be done and if so are there any suggestions of a key to go to? Thanks for your advice.

Preferably in the north east of England ? Me and some friends want a cheap drinking holiday so we have been looking around and the campsites generally look like they are for people who are just relaxing.
We dont want to be disturbing other peoples fun so I was wondering if there was anywhere we could go

Answer
If you go onto a mixed site, with tents and caravans and some have chalets, you'll find that most of them have a bar, a restaurant, and fun things for the kids.
My bit top end fave is way up at the top of Scotland at Cape Wrath.
The campsite bar is the village pub becaause the other option is the community hall with a bar, a long mile up a steep hill away and the next one is on the road to Tongue...but....yeah, that's a nice pub. Brill... If you have a driver who isn't drinking.
That campsite bar can hold 400 and boy does it rock some nights......read the first few lines of the review

Happy camping.....you're safe at Sango. There's a fence round the top of the cliff.....

What's the cheapest way to get ferry's and coaches around europe?

amazondebs

I'm a student and me and some of my friends are going to go round europe for a few weeks, camping in various places, whats the cheapest way to do this and I mean really cheap. We're literally just taking a tent and some clothing with us.

Answer
Early booking for the coach companies, Eurolines is most often mentioned: http://www.eurolines.com/
In the UK you can also use Megabus, can only be booked online:
http://uk.megabus.com/default.aspx
Other countries may also have cheap coach companies, but not in all countries the bus is the best option. I think you should try google for more companies.
Within France, the Netherlands and Belgium you will not find many or even any cheap coach options, but between these countries and from them to the rest of Europe you will find cheap bus/coach travel.

In some countries the train can be almost as cheap and have more options. In Germany there are special tickets for people traveling together on the slow trains, very cheap but not fast. More flexible than the bus though:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?newrequest=yes&protocol=http:&

A good site for train info is: http://www.seat61.com/

'Remember that farther east is mostly cheaper, as soon as you are beyond Germany, Switzerland and Austria and Italy.
Countryside and small towns are cheaper than capital cities, certainly when camping.
If you are from the UK you might be able to get a cheap flight to Eastern Europe for less than you would pay on the ferry to the continent.
http://www.skyscanner.net/ or a site like it.

If this is not cheap enough yet, you can try organized hitchhiking, this is a German site, there are more, Google can help you out: http://www.mitfahrzentrale.de/index.php?landnr=D&lang=GB
And in case you hit the bad weather jackpot, couch surfing:
http://www.couchsurfing.org/ or http://www.hospitalityclub.org/ and again there are more sites to be found.

What are your plans for a zombie apocolypse?

Luis

My plans are going to for your average 4 person family. One 8 year old girl, one 14 year old guy (me), and one 34 year old mom and dad. Our vehicle of transportation is a Ford Fusion late '00's. We can make weapons out of golf clubs by cutting off the head of the club and leaving the shaft for use. We also have kitchen knives, hammers, saws, and dumbbells (heavy projectile weaponry). We have wine/beer bottles we can use as melee or projectile, also wine glasses to be used (melee and/or projectile as well). We have a first-aid kit but we need to stock up on band-aids, cool packs, and medicine for fever, cough, stomach ache (I get them frequently. BIG disadvantage), etc. We aren't going to just stick at home, we have to move around or our odds of dying are more likely. Where we'll go for better supplies like protection and weaponry is academy or some sports and outdoors store. If there are any you-know-what over there, we'll try to kill them off using our surroundings. If we succed, well go find supplies. After that, well go to a supermarket like walmart and stock up and save food. We have to make sure it doesn't need to be refrigerated or it'll spoil with time. It'll also attract zombies. We can stock up on things like crackers, granola bars, WATER, no soda because it snaps when opened and zombies may hear. We will sleep in places like an undergound hole or a large tent we could find at academy. NO SEX! Yeah, that's right. It'll distract you and you won't be ready for an ambush. Mose likely won't get strep throat because I got my tonsils removed. Make sure you're vaccanized so you'll be lesser vulnerable to non-zombie related sicknesses. If you have a beloved pet, take them especially if they're protective like a large dog. Make sure your vehicle is FULL on gass and has good oil or else you'll have a bad ride. If you're full and you run out, it's best to find a police or fire station and find keys to the firetruck or police car/SUV. What's your plan?

Answer
Well I live near the Rocky Mountains so my first plan is to go to my nearest elementary school and fortify it with some local community members. We will hold out at the school creating a perimeter at the school gates and defending them until the military arrives. My supplies so far is my katana, combat knife, sharpened shovel, crowbar. And I know how to farm and grow my own food, I have also studied a bit of botany in order to identify wild plants that can be used for food and medicine. If the military fails to arrive we will evacuate with small teams each taking separate routes to an undisclosed location hidden in the Rockies using bicycles since they are quite, easy to fix, and fast and we will begin constructing a wooden fort and post sentries in the nearby pine trees as look outs while the others begin construction. Once the fort is built we will wait for five years before sending out a scouting party to gather news, if they do not return after a set time then we will have deemed the worst has happened.

Flaws in your plan:
Car=bad, the roads and highways will be clogged with them and if you think you can get through with a ford fusion, you are dead wrong.
Golf Clubs: If you are planning long term survival a golf club won't last in many fights because that is not it's original purpose. I suggest something lethal yet practical like a crowbar, it's highly durable and can be used to open doors and such.
Supplies: Learn some botany and first aid without using processed medicine and learn to bear without it because once a zombie apocalypse happens medical supplies go faster than you can imagine.
Location: Get away from large city areas, if you are going to plan to go to a sport store during an outbreak you're gonna die, zombies tend to gather where there is a food source and that especially means a store where there are people trying to hold out in and if you are in a city or even a suburb it can be hell. Underground is the worst place you can camp out in, if you've ever been in a sewer you have to work there in order to know how to get around and usually being underground you can easily get cornered, trapped and killed. NEVER GO TO A POLICE STATION, CHURCH, OR HOSPITAL these are hotspots for zombies due to the fact that people love to swarm to a police station thinking it is safe when in actuality there could be a lot of infected people there.

Need a fairly cheap tent campground with basic bathroom and drinking water facilities near hiking trail(s). Looking to head there Friday evening after work and return Sunday evening on a train and/or bus.

Thanks!

Answer
Floyd Bennett Field
Manhattanites have always considered Brooklyn to be something of a wilderness, but it may still come as a surprise to learn that you can actually camp thereâand weâre not talking about sleeping on the sidewalk. This abandoned-airport-turned-national-park in Marine Park has room for about 100 campers, each site with a fire pit and picnic tableâand not much else. (It may be the only place in New York City where holes in the ground are considered acceptable bathroom facilities.) Itâs a little slice of serenityâ¦with bonus noise from JFK-bound planes that occasionally fly nearby!
Price: $50 per campsite for a three-night stay.
Getting there: Take the 2 or 5 train (at rush hour) to Flatbush Avenue and transfer to the Rockaway Parkâbound Q35 bus. Call 718-338-3799 for reservations.

Where is a great tent campsite in yellowstone?

SailBeyond

Me and my friends are going on a camping trip up to Yellowstone National Park. We plan on tent camping. The will be between 8-10 of us going. We need to find somewhere they have a group rate that is cheap or we would just like somewhere to dry camp. We plan on leaving the first week of August.

Answer
I suggest that you do a Yellowstone National Park drive-through during a day and go dispersed camping or primitive developed camping in an adjacent National Forest or Grand Teton National Park. August is a busy and hot time to camp in Yellowstone National Park.

Look at Shoshone National Forest, Gallatin National Forest, Targhee National Forest, Custer National Forest as a few alternatives.

What is the best place to camp in Adirondacks NY?

Lost007

Hi

What's the best place to camp in the adirondacks NY and close to the nyc? Camp site that has decent hiking trails, water fall, or maybe rafting and fun things to do.

Answer
Do you know that the Adirondacks is the largest National Park in the US, bigger than Yellowstone and Yosemite combined? There are hundreds of camping areas, dozens of lakes and waterways and thousands of miles of trails. There is no "best" place to camp, almost every area is great in some way. If you want to be as close to New York City as possible, and it sounds like you want outfitter provided experiences like rafting and car-camping tent sites, I suggest you look on line at commercial campgrounds around the Lake George and Glens Falls areas, less than an hour north of Albany. These sites will have photos and descriptions of the resources and scenery in those areas.

http://www.adirondackcampgrounds.com
http://www.lakegeorge.com/camping/

Because August is a peak month for camping in the 'Dacks, it would be best if you made sure you had a reservation at any campsite before heading up there -- don't count on being able to just drop in wherever you want this time of year.

Granola, Oats, Raisins, and Peanuts

1 cup salted peanuts or dried roasted peanuts
1 cup raisins

Mix in a Zip lock bag and eat on the trail.

more recipes are here: http://gorp.away.com/gorp/food/foo_gorp.htm

some sturdy plastic toys that can be washed when you get back home

books, books, and more books! or campfire stories http://www.ultimatecampresource.com/site/camp-activities/campfire-stories.html

I'm looking for a place to go camping in Jan 2009 in Key West Florida.
Basically I'm looking for:
*Tent camping, water or electricity would be nice but not 100% needed.
*Doesn't have to be beach front but the beach has to be within walking distance (1/4 mile)
*Would like to have a beach where we can relax, swim in the ocean, and have alcohol.
*A fire would be nice on the beach but it not needed.
Any recommendations?

Thank you!

I would recommend Ocala National Forest. Get a Primitive site. I can recommend hopkins prairie. It is a very small campground, so there aren't a lot of people there. Also the Florida Scenic Trail runs through it.

I am older person with 2 small dogs and want to camp. I tent camp for now and feel at a loss once I get to the camp site. I set everything up, read for a while, then draw. I take the dogs for a walk and come back and eat. I can't go on the tours, visit shops (Yosemite), no dogs allowed. I've tried to find other women who like to camp for over 2yrs-no one wants to go camp. What does one do when camping?

Answer
I'm not single but I do enjoy camping alone if I don't have someone that wants to go with me. I'm generally out hiking and mountain biking during the day even though it's best to not go alone. I generally go somewhere other than a national park so I can take my dog.

I love taking photos when I'm out and then spend the evening going through them on the laptop. You should give photography a try. You can find interesting flowers, bugs, rocks, etc right in camp. You don't need a fancy camera. Having an eye for a good shot is more important than the camera. I've had magazines use photos I took with a little point and shoot that fits in my pocket.

What are some good camping areas close to San Francisco?

wicket_wm

We are flying into San Francisco in the middle of May to go camping. We would like either beach access, or redwoods, or both would be great. Something within 3 hours of San Fran where we could rent a cabin (we will consider tent camping but flying with all the gear would be difficult). We will have a 3 year old with us so something kid friendly with rangers/security of some kind is needed. Right now we are mostly looking at Big Basin, but we are searching for other options as well. Any suggestions?

Answer
You might want to look into a KOA Cabin. They have several locations throughout the state.
Since you were thinking about Big Basin here is a link to the one in Santa Cruz County.

jdryan123

anywhere is good. but my total budget including travel, accomodations, food, entertainment, etc is 2000. i am coming from ohio and looking to go early fall (probably october). thank you for your help

Answer
Depends on what your interests are--if you like camping, accomodations can be very inexpesive most anywhere in the country (try the UP in Michigan, Mackinaw area), but call ahead to campgrounds (or ck them out online) to make sure you know if the ground is "primitive" or has water/electricity available. Personally, I look for locations that have a "bath house" (running water toilets & showers) Also, ck to make sure the campground will allow tents--at Yellowstone, you can only have hard-sided campers--no pop-ups or tents because of the bears! Jellystone Parks are great if you have kids...

Vegas can be inexpensive unless you spend a lot gambling--and some of the top shows can be very expensive (and hard to get tickets to if you don't order them before you go)

Your transportation will also be a big factor--if you drive, you do not have to rent a car when you arrive, but you can also get some cheap flights (like to Vegas) and bigger cities will have buses & cabs available (like Vegas does)

Good Luck! Safe Travelling!

Difference from private campground and state parks camping?

AriesAlway

Ive been looking online at nearby areas to go camping (northeast ohio) Ive found a couple private family campgrounds...They seem like they have alot to offer. But I have also found state park camping...Whats the difference? Would one be better than the other? We wanna go tent camping with our two little kids.

Answer
Better would be completely subjective. And it would depend on the individual campground. Most have similar features and functions. There are generally small, semi-private (meaning partially surrounded by trees and bushes) cleared areas for each campsite with a picnic table, and possibly a fire pit or grill. Most offer restrooms with showers (centrally used and located by all campers).

Both will usually have both RV sites, and tent sites that are generally separate. RV sites will usually have electricity available for an extra fee.

If all you are going to do is camp and eat, it shouldn't matter one way or the other, particularly if your kids are small and you just want them to have the camping experience. In this case, I'd recommend whichever was closer (particualrly if there's a chance your kids won't enjoy it and cry until you take them home).

If you want to do something recreational though, in most cases you're better off at the state park, because there are usually more services (better/longer trails, possible canoing or lakes that are better maintained than you may find on the private parks, etc), and in many cases, it might also be a little cheaper.

Where are some good places for me and my friend (I am 19 and she is 20) to go in Canada? We want to go in the first 1-2 weeks of September. We are looking for some places to go party and of course drink. We would need a hotel near by of course but yeah if anyone has any ideas please let me know! We have never been to Canada so we really got no idea.

Answer
Where are you from? US? Europe?

Montreal would probably be a good place to party and if you want to visit other major cities, your relatively near from Ottawa (2h) Quebec city (2h30) and Toronto (6-7h). If you're from US, you will discover a very different culture, much more different from the US culture than the rest of Canada is... Don't worry, the province of Quebec is a French speaking province, but almost everyone speak English, especially if you stay more in the city.

You can go West too in the Rockies (Banff, Whistler...), but it will be much more expensive.

If you decide to go to Montreal and you want to live something special, try to find a way to go to St. Tite Western festival (http://www.festivalwestern.com/en/) happening the 2 first week of september (about 1h30 of drive from Montreal, try to go there during the weekend). Seriously, it's probably the funniest thing i've ever seen! It's pretty much 400 000 completely drunk fake cowboys drinking everywhere and wearing cowboy hats. If you have a tent or a car, you can give like $10 to a farmer there and camping on his field (in your tent or in your car!). If you have one place to go in september to drink beer in Canada, this is where you want to be!

A few questions about Quebec?

Cripple

For my summer homework, I have a few questions I've been unable to answer.
1. What kind of things can you do there if you spend your summer/winter vacation in the province of Quebec?
2. Name 2-3 famous people from the province of Quebec, and describe what they are famous for.
3. Name 2-3 products and/or events the province of Quebec is well known for.

Thank you all in advance! :)

Answer
I lived there for almost 22 years. 1.In the summer months you can "go fly fishing for native brook trout", you can canoe in rivers and lakes, you can camp in a tent in zones called "ZEC" way up in the bush. You can visit tourist attractions such as "Les Grand Chutes Canyon Ste. Anne" over the St. Anne river. You cross over rope-supported bridges and look down into the canyon, you can take a photo of the famous hotel Le Chateau Frontenac from the Levis Ferry, after boarding on foot from Quebec City to Levis, you can take a cruise boat called the HMS Louie Joiiette and sail down to the Quebec Bridge and up to the Island of Orleans while listening to a live orchestra. In the winter you can ski down the slopes of the highest vertical ski drop in Eastern Canada at Le Massif just past Beaupre, Quebec, you can take a borrowed husky dog team out dog-sledding, you can go snowshoeing with snow shoes made the way they were made 400 years ago, you can go ice skating on rinks, and frozen ponds and lakes,. You can climb to the top of of Mountain at the end of McGill St., in Montreal and on a clear day you can admire a view of a good portion of the City of Montreal. 2.There are so many famous Quebecers. Giles Vignault from Natashquan, Quebec who wrote scores of songs such as "Mon Pays Ce N'est Pas Un Pays - C'est L'Hiver" ("My country is not a country - it's the winter"). Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau who tried to bring in Bilingualism throughout Canada and did bring in the Constitution Act in 1982 from which we have our "Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms" today. Samuel de Champlain, whose statue is beside the hotel Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. He founded that city in 1608 and they celebrated their 400th anniversary four years
ago. 3.PRODUCT: Maple Syrup. You can visit a real sugar-shack village up on the mountain South/above Riguad, Quebec. If you stay for the evening you can watch and participate in square-dancing or just listening to the fiddles being played (this maple village is about 10 miles Northwest of the Auberge des Galland near Ste. Marte which had a million dollar fire in April 2012). EVENT: "The Quebec (City) Winter Carnival" one event is the long boat races across the St. Lawrence River during the Carnival where boaters hop in/jump out ad row on water and slide on ice to beat their competitors. By the way, if you visit a sugar shack in April or May, you can watch as warm maple syrup, just after it is poured over the snow...it then crystallizes and you eat it cold .
PRODUCT: Newsprint...Spruce trees in the northern half of Quebec provide enough pulp to print all newspapers in Quebec, some in Ontario and some in New York and Boston. This is after, of course, the pulp is pressed into newsprint which comes out of the pulp and paper mills in throughout the northern parts in rolls that are 20 feet wide and almost a half mile long.

Answer
Try the Comrie Bunkhouse in Perthshire . Fantastic ! To quote :

Wild camping experience with eco-facilities (including excellent hot showers). Choose between individual clearings in birch woodland or picturesque field with stunning views. Firepits (firewood on sale). Also Swedish kata tents fully kitted out with sheep skins, woodburning stoves, & mod cons. Beautiful area off the beaten trail where the Highlands meet the Lowlands. 10 mins to Loch Lomond National Park (Loch Earn), 5 mins to Famous Grouse Experience and wildlife park. Booking recommended.

Trip from UK to America- how much would it cost?

charcoal

I'm thinking trying to see if I can have a short holiday in America but I'm only 17, I want to be as cheap as possible...

So I have some questions-
1. Where is the best place to vist in America? (I'd love to see New York but I think that's just too expensive...) But I want to see something interesting!
2. What kind of place should I stay in? (I mean hotel, hostel, do they have campsites..?) What sort of prices are all of these?
3. How much money(ish) would I need per day? How much would this vary from place to place...
4. How long is the shortest time I could (should) go for to keep costs low and still have a good time and see things?

I'm thinking of going with my mum.. it's my 18th birthday this summer, so she said a while back that if she could afford it that me and her could go to Paris for the weekend, or somewhere else if I could make up some of the difference...

In costs, I won't be spending money on alcohol or anything, since I'd be going with my mum..

Answer
Whilst I really liked the West Coast, I'd recommend that you go somewhere on the East Coast for the sole reason that as you're trying to budget the air fare will be a lot cheaper. If you want to see something interesting but at the same time restrict costs, I'd suggest going to a city as it means there will be things to see but you won't havethe expense of travelling around.

Staying in hostels will cut down costs and I've found that hostels in the US are on the whole quite good. If you do go to a city I really wouldn't recommend camping (they do have campsites over there by the way) - would you feel safe pitching a tent in the middle of London? Hostels will also usually have a kitchen and so you can cut down your spending by cooking your own food.

As for where you should go, New York is brilliant but is also fairly expensive (well, for America it is). Maybe you could look at places such as Boston or Washington DC which will still have plenty to see and do without the expense of New York. It's impossible to say how much you'd need a day, but I'd say £40 minimum even if you're working off a very low budget. I'd recommend looking for air fares in January as most of the major airlines have sales on at that time of year so you might be able to get a good deal.

Time-wise, you'd probably want to go for at least 4 days (essentially a long weekend). It's a long journey there and if you stay for any less time you'll be too knackered to enjoy it.

I love camping, especially in the fall. But it's going to be unusually chilly next weekend so I was thinking of investing in one.

Answer
I use a Mr Heater Portable Buddy.
http://www.mrheater.com/
I've used it in both my tents and in my van. Only the front of the heater gets hot and the bottom, back and sides remain very cool. The area you're heating MUST be ventilated and venting instructions are in the manual that comes with the heater. The oxygen depletion sensor (ODP) will prevent the heater from working at altitudes higher than 6,000 - 7,000 ft. where the oxygen levels are lower. They're easy to find at Home Depot and Lowe's and they are certified for indoor use.

Where can we go camping in New Jersey?

A small group of friends and I want to go camping before our friend leaves for basic training. We are live in NJ and want to stay within the state. We are going tent camping but need an electric hook-up for the site. I've checked state parks but either they say they don't have them or don't say anything at all. Does anyone know where we can go camping?

Answer
http://woodalls.com/ lists all the developed campgrounds with electricity.

@MM you can run an electric space heater in a tent. An essential item this time of year.

I am looking for a fun place to go camping with my husband this weekend no more than 3 hours outside of NYC. We would be bringing a tent to camp in. I would like somewhere that has great swimming, like a lake or river! Somewhere fun! We have a dog, that we will bring if she is allowed, but if not that's ok too. Thanks for your help!

Answer
Look up the Pennsylvania State Game Lands right along the Delaware river (which makes up the border of Pa and NY. There are tent sites right along the Delaware river adn its only an hour and a half to 2 hours North of NYC. You can also try harriman state park, its only 45 to an hour out of NYC

Where would be a good place to wild camp near Ennerdale in the Lake District?

NickO

Hi, thanks for reading!

I will be walking across the Lake District via the Wainwright coast to coast walk. On the first night I am hoping to wild camp around Ennerdale.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for the area? It must be close to Ennerdale, preferably on the Eastern side, so we have a headstart in the morning. I would especially like any suggestions that overlook the lake.

All advice appreciated!

Answer
Depends on the time and the inclination. Where you rest and sleep is where you decide to at the time on looking at the area around you or finding suddenly that you've just had enough for the day and this place will do me a treat for the night.
Plans are not often stuck to on a walk. In good weather and with sufficient interest to explore, a hundred different locations around the eastern side of Ennerdale might present themselves as being the perfect spot to camp, cook, gaze with ease and calm at the fading of the light, and sleep.
A few paces from the path or a hundred there are endless places where can get a good view of the lake but where you stay is really determined at the time when you finally get there and look around.
A bit upstairs is fine for getting a better view but whether you feel like it at the time or whether you just plonk down the bag and say...I'm staying right here...is not known till you're there. Conditions change. You may have had an easy time in cool weather, making good progress, or boiled away in heavy heat and got there whacked.
No two walks are the same.
You may decide to walk beside Ennerdale lake and camp at the side of the river Liza below Starling Dodd or Red Pike which is a lovely option and very scenic but away from the lake, or walk the tops or half way up and see the lake from above and get a better view across it, get into a sheltered hollow or beside a sheltering craggy outcrop for the night and enjoy breakfast while looking down across the water instead of being beside it.
If you're taking a low level route of course that requires a climb which might not be a happy thought at the time, or may be.
Where the River Liza leaves the lake there is plenty of space but a it's a bit midgey so a bit away from the water suits most people better.
Further along from the lake the river provides some good sheltered locations with very pretty scenery
There are coils you can buy which you support on a pin sticking up from a base and set light to. They smoulder for hours, releasing insect repellent fumes. Commonly called mosquito coils, they can be a good help in enjoying a meal outdoors without being plagued by the midges that all waterside locations are full of in the evenings Millets and Cotswold outdoors have them, and several shops in Whitehaven.
Further east than Ennerdale lake you might decide that the southern shore of Buttermere would be a good resting place, as it has been for me a few times, a little up the slope to avoid the midges beside the water and get a good view across it, or simply rest there for a meal and get some miles done quickly through the Honister pass on an easy road instead of the upper path and sleep at Seatoller or even Stonethwaite if you are feeling athletic enough to do the distance, sleeping either in the tent or in a B&B with the possibility of a warm shower instead of the cold waters of a stream to wash in, and taking advantage of a sink in the bathroom to wash some clothes.
A small bag or plastic container of washing powder or concentrated wash liquid is a handy thing to take with you on a walk of a few days.
A shower of sorts is also available at Black Sail youth hostel, the remotest in England, a few miles east of the lake beneath Haystacks, and at High Gillerthwaite hostel a little beyond the bridge over the Liza just past the eastern edge of the lake, with good camping spots around there.

On a long day's walking and with a good stride it's possible to get beyond Stonethwaite for the first night but what a waste of missing things on the way.
And what a pain for the legs next morning, on getting out of the tent and finding the legs are two wobbly stiff broomsticks that don't go where you want them to.
In summer the days are long and two walking times, morning and late afternoon/evening with a rest between them during the hotter part of the day for local sightseeing and enjoyment so you're not just rushing past everywhere, is a common way to do a walk.
Ennerdale itself could take as long as the entire available time for the walk and not be totally explored from all angles and is a particularly pleasant place to stop, cook a meal, and simply enjoy being there.
Have a good time.
