Me and my family are going camping next weekend and abou 30 of us are going. Does anyone know of a place to go camping in tents that is preety secluded? We want to see alot of animals and trees. We usually go to lodgepole but that place is to public. Anyone have an suggestions?

Answer
Yes split up the group all general campsites are limited to a max of 6-8 unless you can find a dispersed area or a group campsite also you will need reservations, specially if you want to book multiple sites near each other. The Dorst Creek area has great group camping and lots of general campgrounds

First time camper (embarassed about that) looking for recommendations for the best place to go?

WorkHorse

Looking for the best experience - of course near/preferably ON a lake or river but able to still be among the trees and in wooded area - not as far as Yosemite (don't have time to drive all the way there) and not crowded...primitive camping OK (going with experienced campers who don't really know the areas in CA)...I just need to know where we can go to have the best experience for a four-five day camping stay. I haven't taken time off from work in over a year and a half and am desperate to figure this out as soon as possible! I have heard Big Bear, Wheelers Gorge, Kahweh and Lake Piru...but I would love to know if those are good places. I know great camping spots are secrets that real campers keep well but I'm begging! Thanks so much to anyone who has time to help me out with this question! Oh, we are looking for tent camping...no RV's... :)

Answer
If you are in CA, Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Park are nice. But your best bet is to get a camping guidebook - in CA the best is 'California Camping' by Tom Stienstra.

AAA also has a free camping guide and maps (the maps are more useful than the guide).

Anyone ever do this or have some tips and suggestions on how to do this? Easy ways to make some money while over there? cheap ways to travel? Is it safe to bring a tent and just camp out where we end up if we find a nice scluded area? Any animals over there that we run the risk of getting eating by? Buying cheap bikes there? Anyhting that could be of value to our trip?

Some general info: It will be me, 19, and my buddy, 21, on the trip. We will be gone for 6 months. We will land in Ireland and then go to Scotland, England, Amsterdam, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Thailand, and Egypt. We already have rounded up all travel expenses including passports and visas and have that money saved and stored away. We will probably bring about $3,000-$5,000 with us for the trip and we are not afraid to rough it.

Don't be rude and tell us we are wasting time and money, I don't see travelling and gaining life experience as wasteful. We are going, we are just asking for a little advice.

Answer
You can bring a tent if you find a place, a camping area to stay in advance. I dont think youd want to end up sleeping in a tent at Tescos parking lot! :p
You might want to consider some cheap hotels, and I would definitely recommend finding some in sdvance in case there arent any camping areas around.
Most of the bigger cities are... well... big and you ma not be able to find a nice camping place.
There are cheap bikes to buy, but you should maybe check on-line to see the general prices.
The countries that you are going to visit dont have large unemployment rates as far as I know, but Im not so sure about people wanting to hire some traveller theyve never seen before. However, you might get lucky. Actually, its very probable that in 6 months youll find 2-3 jobs at least. that is, if you try a bit harder to find them.
Just a tip: if you want to buy anything, from souvenirs to samdwiches, do not do it in the city centres because its usually more expensive there.
Enjoy your trip!
p.s. and definitely get those travellers dictionaries, with the main phrases in more than one language. Especially Spain and France! Not mny people speak English there.

I'm going to be camping @ Glastonbury festival & need list of essential items I'll need to take, can you help?

claire w

It'll be my first time camping at a festival, and I don't wanna pack too heavy, though I want to have the best experience I can... any help from those who've been there and done it would be really appreciated... thanks!:)

Answer
Speaking as a 4 times Glastonbury veteran :)

You will need black bin bags, lots of them, use them as a door mat to your tent, as shoes and tie one around your waist so you can sit on the (muddy) ground. They are also useful for chucking rubbish / dirty clothes in.

You want to bring a big water container, the taps are always busy, so you will have some water by your tent. Bring a small water bottle for when you are out and about.

Food! You want to bring dry food that has lots of sugar in it for energy. Mints usually do the job for me.

Stay away from the burger vans, not only is there food hideously over-priced, but you want to spend as little time as possible in the loos!

There is a stall round by the other stage i think, they sell 'Welsh Oggies' it was 2 for a fiver in 2005 and they are massive.

Money. Like i said food is expensive, beer was £3 last time and then there are all the stalls. I would take about £100 - £200 to the festival, and hide it well. Under your tent is works well, put it in a plastic bag (water tight). If you don't feel comfortable with that amount of cash, then there are cash machines on site, you want to go either early in the morning (6 - 8am) or during the headliners, then there won't be such a queue.

If you smoke then bring A LOT of cigarettes, 100 minimum, you'll be surprised how quickly they will disappear.

Drugs :) apparently the best way to get around the sniffer dogs is to pack your drugs in a water tight bag, put it in a flask and pour coffee over it, but i guess you'll be alright if you just stuff them in a sock and put it in the bottom of your sleeping bag. It is usually quite busy at the gate and i've never been searched.

Alcohol :) Your best bet is to buy some spirits and mixers from Tesco, then drink about 1/3 of the mixer bottle and fill with spirits. (Depends how strong you want it). Remember beer will make you piss like a donkey ;)

Then you really just have the usual,

Tent,
Sleeping bag
Ground mat
Toothbush
Toothpaste
Wet wipes for general hygiene.
Deodorant etc...

You will need a small torch and a lighter for night times.

Although you can never be sure of the weather metcheck have a preliminary forecast over here http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/event_forecast.asp?eventID=107
But it is changing all the time, and in 2005 they predicated 'light showers' so i wouldn't put too much faith in them. :)

Remember your wellies :)

And don't forget to watch

The Fratellis ~7/8pm Pyramid Stage Friday
The Killers ~10pm Pyramid State Saturday
The New Pornographers ~3/4pm John Peel Stage Friday

Full line up is here
http://music.guardian.co.uk/glastonbury2007/lineup/page/0,,2092349,00.html

Also remember there is more the glasters than just the bands, take an afternoon off and stumble around the green fields. :)

And finally don't worry if you forget something, your neighbours will usually be friendly and let you borrow whatever you need (-: usually a hammer :-)

Where should stay in the Grand Canyon if I will be driving from San Diego?

best tent camping grand canyon image

John B

I will be headed to the grand canyon in about a month (i will be driving). However, as I have never been there before, I have no idea where to stay and what sights I should see? I would prefer to camp in a tent so suggestions on good camping places will be appreciated. I will only be staying for a few days. Thanks!

Answer
If you are camping on the South Rim of the National Park, than really your only option is Mather or Desert View campgrounds. These are both large car-camping type campgrounds with designated spots, drinking water, bathrooms, etc. They are both pretty nice. Desert View is at Desert View point near the East Entrance and Mather is on the edge of Grand Canyon Village near the lodges. Desert View is going to be less crowded and be within walking distance of the rim, but you will have to drive a way to see anything else. Mather is closer to the lodges, main facilities and other attractions around the south entrance although it is about a mile back from the rim (the free village shuttle stops there).

You can make reservations online (see link below) and since you will be there at a popular time, you should make them well in advance.

You can also backpack into the canyon itself and camp at any one of several designated backcountry camp sites, but this would be true backpacking with a fair amount of hiking, needing to pack in food and camp stoves (no fires in the canyon), etc. You also need permits for camping inside the canyon and since reservations can be made 4 months in advance, they would be tough to get for May now.

Lastly, the Kaibab National Forest borders the park to the south and you can just wander down any dirt road there and camp 'at large' where ever you chose. Not as scenic or convenient as being at the park, but it is free.

As for things to do there... well, check out the canyon obviously. There are more than a dozen major overlooks each with a somewhat different view. The free shuttle running from the lodges out to Hermit Rest and back is a good way to see a lot of them. Also check out the many historic buildings including the grand 1905 El Tovar lodge and nearby 1905 Hopi House curio shop (built to look like a Hopi pueblo). I would also recommend doing at least a short hike down one of the trails (Bright Angel, Hermit or Kaibab) to get a sense of being in the canyon. Wear comfortable shoes, carry plenty of water and don't go down any further than you want to hike back out (remember it takes twice as long and twice as much energy going up).

In the wider surrounding area, Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monuments (along 89A NE of Flagstaff and near the park's east entrance) and very interesting and often overlooked (Sunset Crater is an old volcanic field and Wupatki is a prehistoric pueblo ruin). Flagstaff and Williams are both neat old historic towns with shops and cafes. The Museum of Northern Arizona and Lowell Observatory (both in Flag) are well worth a visit.

Lastly, remember that Flagstaff and the South Rim are at an elevation of 7,000 feet and so much cooler than the rest of Arizona. It is quite possible to sometimes still get snow flurries in early May and it will definitely get cold after the sun goes down. Prepare accordingly.

Have fun!

What is it like camping at the bottom of the grand canyon?

april_hwth

I am determined to get to the bottom of the grand canyon. What is it like carrying all that stuff down there? Does the duffel service carry tents? There is no lodging available at Phantom Ranch for hikers until next October. We want to go this Spring. My husband is not crazy about camping. Should we just do some day hikes and not worry about getting to the bottom?

Answer
It is definitely worth trying to get to the bottom of the Grand Canyon as it is a very different (and in my opinion) much more rewarding experience than just staying on the top. There is no feeling on earth like standing beside the muddy waters of the Colorado River with the dark rough walls of the Inner Gorge towering above you. I have been to the bottom over a dozen times and it still makes my heart skip a beat each visit.

Bright Angel campground (the one at the bottom by Phantom Ranch) is about as civilized a backcountry camp site as you are going to find. They have a facet with drinking water and real bathrooms with flush toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table with ammo cans and poles for storing food away from critters. Although it is a large camp area and all the sites are close together, the lush vegitation and the pleasant background noise of nearby Bright Angel creek make it feel very peaceful and not crowded.

As far as how tough it is to backpack down... well, I would say that if you consider yourself fit enough to hike it without a pack than you can probably handle it with one (unless perhaps, you have significant knee or lower back problems). As long as your pack fits correctly, you take your time and stop for rests when you need them than you should not have any problems - especially since you have several months to prepare. I have a couple of friends who are over 40 and a bit over-weight (certainly not athletes) who I have done it with and they did not have problems - they just took it slow at their own pace.

Mr. Danger above has a lot of good tips and suggestions. As he notes, you will want to make sure that you get ready both physically and mentally. Start with going on regular hikes around your home with a small day pack and then try renting or borrowing a pack, load it up with the weight you expect to carry, and try doing some long day hikes with that (doing at least one easy overnight practice trip would be ideal). You are going to want to be building up your leg muscles, increasing your cardio-vascular endurance, and also building up stomach and lower back muscles. Note - it is not training for the olympics - just that if you don't do regular cardio exercise than you should start and make sure that you get a day or two experience carrying a full pack.

As Mr. Danger notes you could try buying stuff on eBay or rent from several places near the canyon. A couple of additional suggestions about packing the canyon for the first time:

1) While it does not have to be the ultra-ligh high-end stuff, make sure that you get true backpacking equipment. You do not want to be carrying an 10lb 'car camping' tent or other much heavier equipment. If your entire pack - including water - is over 30lbs than something is wrong.

2) Fit is everything. Regardless of if it is bought, borrowed or rented find somebody knowledgeable to guide you in loading and fitting your pack. I will take a well-balanced well-fit heavy pack over a poorly packed, ill-fitting light pack any day. Remember that the weight should ride on your hips, not your shoulders.

3) Invest in some trekking poles (look like ski poles). These make a huge difference by taking strain off your back and knees and improving your balance. Having a pair of trekking poles is like taking 10lbs off your pack.

4) Be warned that the South Rim is at 7000 feet and does experience snow and freezing temps in winter. Icy patches can be quite common on the upper stretches of trails well into April. Check with the backcountry office before you go - if they are really icy, you will want to have instep crampons.

5) See about getting your meals at the Phantom Ranch canteen. Even if you are not staying in the dorms/cabins, they always have extra dinners and breakfast seats that backpackers can reserve (you MUST have reservations - made through Xanterra). Although a bit pricy, the food is good and it means you don't have to carry food or cooking supplies. Bag lunches (as well as individual snack items) can be bought at the canteen without reservation.

6) Backcountry camping permits are selected 4 months in advance. Spring is a popular time for backpacking in the canyon, so permits get picked quickly. If for instance, you want to go in April, than you should have your permit request sent in well before January 1 (see link below).

As far as duffel service goes... yes, (for most of the year anyways) you can hire a mule to carry your gear. The gear must fit in a space of 36x20x13 inches, which could prove a challenge for two people's gear. It costs about $60 per duffel per trip (ie: one trip down and one trip up) and you can only drop-off and pick-up your gear at certain times during the day. You are still going to have to carry a day pack with water, snacks and probably some bad weather gear. Considering the hassle and expense of the duffels, I would say just backpack it - it is a great experience and the feeling of accomplishment and independence that you get when you come out of the canyon carrying your own gear is something you will remember for the rest of your life.

Answer
I don't know how close you want to stay to San Antonio, but check out the Texas State Parks website. I believe the closest park to San Antonio would be Guadalupe River State Park. Garner State Park is the most popular State Park in Texas, and rightfully so. Blanco State Park is okay. Palmetto State Park near Gonzales has some great hiking trails, but swimming will be limited. Bastrop State Park has a huge pool and nice hiking in the Lost Pines area of the state.

Whichever park you choose, be sure you have reservations...camping has become a very popular pastime!

Enjoy!

I'd like to take my family of six camping this summer but we have no equipment whatsoever, does anyone know where I could find some reasonably priced, even used camping equipment online or in the detroit metro area?

Answer
I have to agree with all the "yard sale" suggestions, you can get some great buys at them.

If you do decide to purchase a used tent, insist that it be set up before paying for it! Be certain that all of the poles, stakes, and rain fly are there. Check it over very carefully for rips, tears and any defective zippers.

If you go with a new tent, please stay away from "store brands" it at all possible. Most are not bad for the occasional camper but, if you plan on camping quite often, buy a well know brand even if you have to buy a discontinued model. (Older models mean markdowns which mean bargin for the shopper!)

I would never consider buying a used sleeping bag! Store brand sleeping bags start around the $15 mark and are adequate for summer camping on a budget.

Used propane stoves can be found at yard sales, at times. Have the owner show you how it works and that it does indeed work properly. To save a few $$, you could consider cooking over a campfire or hot coals. It is a romantic and rustic notion but it is dirty, time consuming and frustrating at times. Better to stick with a stove for your first camping trip with the family so that all goes smoothly and they will want to do it again!

Coolers can also be located at yard sales, just check to be certain the drain plug is not missing or broken, along with handles and hinges.

Cookware can be simply your older pots and pans from how. Same goes with flashlights for night time trips to the bathhouse.

If you are not positive your family will enjoy camping, have you considered renting some of the gear instead of purchasing? There are two REI stores in the Detroit area that rent tents, stoves, sleeping bags and pads. No idea of the cost but may be something you would want to consider and check into.

Can I make a trip in a RV with young children?

Luna

My husband and I are planning a trip to Estes park Colorado. He want us to rent a big RV to camp at Rocky Mountains and then travel to other areas. I am not so sure that this is what I would like us to do. I prefer a cabin, since we have a 1 and a 3 year old children. I just don't know how safe or comfortable could be traveling or camping with young children. Plus he would like to camp in a kind of semi-primitive area where we would have to use generators. There is no hook ups for electricity or water. He wants to camp at this area for a day, then move to another RV park. I know this sounds like a nice adventure but I am not sure if I want to try a new adventure with young children. I prefer a cabin.

Also, we would have to buy pots, pans, silverware, sheets, comforter, cups etc. they rent all of this but it cost $75.00 per person. I just don't want the hassle to stop by at Walmart to buy all this items that I can not bring in the plane back home.

Has anyone travel in a RV with young children? What was your experience, and woul you recommend it? Any advice would be very helpful.

Answer
You obviously did not grow up during the Great Depression. My mom raised six children of all ages while camping summers in a five by seven canvas tent.

Concerning whether you can carry kitchen utensils and sleeping bags on a plane, you should be able to pack everything you need to live for weeks in a backpack. I spent three weeks backpacking in Alaska last summer. On the flight, I checked my backpack with forty-five pounds of gear. My backpack contained my tent, sleeping bag, a sleeping mattress, clothes, down jacket, rain jacket, one week of food, a towel, a stove without fuel, a spoon, a fork, pocket knife, one fry pan, one plate, two liter water bottles, a water filter, matches, and personal hygiene products. My carry-on day pack contained headlamps, a fire starter, maps, GPS, camera, telephoto lens, computer, and journal. When I backpack, I carry more than $1,000 in gear on my back.

If you are hesitant to spend $75.00 on gear, then you should be staying in neither an RV nor a cabin. You should be sleeping in a tent. You get electricity to charge batteries whenever you get to a public library. You take a shower at a pay shower, campground shower, recreation center, or heat water on a camp stove for a pot that you wet a wash rag and pour over your head to shampoo your hair. Using a gas-powered generator for electricity is not semi-primitive. It is highly-developed, highly-spoiled, obnoxious-to-neighbors camping.

Rocky Mountain National Park is ideal for you since you do not like to camp in a natural setting. However, you will miss seeing some of the most spectacular wilderness areas that Colorado offers. National Park staff are trained to hug teddies like you and help you cope with all of the necessities of surviving in a suburban campground. Estes Park has all of the food and gear that you need within a few miles of the park entrance.

If you decide to not go tent camping, there are cheaper alternatives than renting an RV. Friends of mine tow tent trailers or hard-shell pop-ups including micro-kitchens and standard beds. Set-up is a couple of minutes for these cabins on wheels.

The Adirondacks is a park, so you can essentially go to anyplace in the 'dacks and go camping. Its larger than Yosemite, Yellowstone and the grand canyon combined. the 'dacks are 6.1million acres- the largest protected area in the US.

Dan

Throughout July I'm doing a 340 mile coastal trek from Swansea to Aberystwyth to raise money for Mencap. I'm a student and going to be on a tight budget and I will be doing this on my own.

So I need to know how best to camp as cheaply as possible for the trek. Wild camping is illegal from what I gather but is there an acceptable away around it? Are there any free camping sites and how can I find them? Will some camping sites give me a free plot if I give them some morning farming help or just due to the fact I'm walking for charity? Anyone who could help me on any of this or give me any more tips would be a great help.

Answer
Nice one! I work for Mencap at times when I've got a day going. Got a certificate for it from Norman Wisdom, our local patron. Sadly now departed. Nice fella.
Wild camping first. Loads on here to say no but loads more for yes and plenty from me cos wild camping is all I do mostly.
Sometimes I'm on a site...but very rarely.
There is certainly an acceptable way round it...on long distance footpaths in remote places you are OK but you must camp for only one night in each location unless really foul weather prevents further progress for a while or you're a camper and not a walker.
The Pennine Way, the Ridgeway, etc are all OK far from from town and you can camp as an aid to doing the walk, which suits just what you are doing.
In other places just take care and be sensible about locations for the tent and you'll be OK.
Some farmers and other landowners will be happy to let you camp but finding who owns the land you're on at 8pm and ready to stop as the rains threaten imminent disaster for the bread pudding and custard isn't easy.
Find a hidey-hole, hidey nicely all tucked up and out of the way and don't light a fire.
Sorted.
In the morning, pack up, go walkies and stop somewhere else for breakfast far from the flat grass you left behind if necessary.
Welsh Wales isn't known for endless days of dry weather so choose a decent tent and take good waterproofs or walk in shorts and a waterproof jacket cos legs are easier to dry than trousers.
In July the sites will be pretty busy so I doubt you'll get any favourable response from a request for a free night as their contribution to your endeavours but try anyway.
A shower block and a laundry room are the chief benefits, plus a night off relaxing in the lounge or bar, and getting refreshed for another few days of on the trail.
In town there are B&Bs and of course there are backpacker hostels to use, also good for the showers and laundry and meeting people from all over the world.
You can live in Aberwotsit or any of the other Abers and stay in one in right there if there is one, see the score, bit of advance info on the spot.
Nice way to go, around £14-£20 a night in the UK, no membership required, and all sorted for another few days as with the camp site.
I've stayed in those in umpteen countries, five continents, and I've never found a bad one yet.
Life in hostels and doing the backpacking bit on the first link .
If you were doing it in another country this is what you'd be looking for. It's just the same in your own country and safe even for single girls far from home.

Tents and sleeping bags are in Milllets and Cotswold Outdoor and sometimes Millets has good sales. What happened this past weekend at the Guadalupe River???

varsityblu

I was at the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels this past weekend for Memorial Day and I woke up in my tent on Sunday around 8:00 p.m. and when I walked out I was practically the only person left in the overflow camping field at Mountain Breeze. My friends and I packed everything up and left because a cop came by and told us that there was a mandatory evacuation. We were on the river until 5:00 p.m. that day and it was raining during that time and it didn't seem like the river had gotten that bad! What happened that caused everybody to flip out and leave??? I was also told that the bridges were flooding but I was able to drive over them without a problem!

I want to know which state would be better to camp in, in the Summer, between Wyoming and Montana?

I and my friends want to know which of the two states between Montana and Wyoming would be better to camp in? Which has a better experience with getting away from everything and going fishing, swimming, and experiencing wild life. And what are some good places in the state to go tent camping and have little to no contact with other people. I want to go enjoy myself with my friends and have a good time.

Answer
Both are good. If you want to have lots of potential of camping with wildlife, then Yellowstone Park http://www.nps.gov/yell/ in Wyoming would be best - but tent camping is highly regulated there. Montana has Glacier http://www.nps.gov/glac/, several large "wilderness areas" http://www.fs.fed.us/recreation/programs/cda/wilderness.shtml, many BLM and Forest Service camps http://www.recreation.gov/campgroundSearchResult.do?topTabIndex=CampingSpot, and some state parks http://fwp.mt.gov/lands/searchparks.aspx.

What's a good New York state park with camping, biking and nature trails, like Letchworth?

wakum6

I camped in Letchworth last year but I want to do something different this year. I would like a place in the Adirondacks but it's not necessary. Need tent camping though

Answer
Well Harriman State Park is closer to the city, has plenty of what you are looking for.

The Adirondacks is a park, so you can essentially go to anyplace in the 'dacks and go camping. Its larger than Yosemite, Yellowstone and the grand canyon combined. the 'dacks are 6.1million acres- the largest protected area in the US.

Hi,

Here I have a newspaper article I am planning on submitting soon, a little late judging by the time of the event but better late than never! Could you please suggest any (large or small) changes or alterations that could/will improve the piece. Also if you find and spelling or grammatical mistakes if you could points those out for me too please. Cheers

Here it is:

My name is Michael Parsons and I am an Explorer Scout from Hailsham. Last year I represent East Sussex and the United Kingdom at the 2011 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. The World Scout Jamboree happens every 4 years in a different country of the world, and is a worldwide gathering of Scouts from nearly 200 countries, more countries than the Olympics! The total number of people on site just tipped 40,000! With such a blend of cultures and ways of doing things, it was hard not to immerse yourself in the wide variety and to learn from it. A key point surrounding the Jamboree was Sustainability as well as global cooperation, this means we were able to discuss global issues with all sort of people from different backgrounds, which opened up our eyes to new perspectives. Participants will live in tents on sub-camps with others from all over the world, and for 2 weeks we took part in a wide variety of activities with Scouts from other countries and cultures. Following the Jamboree we each had a chance to take part in a Home Hospitality. Home Hospitality was us visiting and staying with a family of a Jamboree participant who was also present. Being that our country was The Netherlands, we got a good insight into the Dutch way of doing things and learn much about their culture and a few old yet not forgotten traditions. We all came back, after the experience of a lifetime, changed people.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Answer
I think it's perfect. Don't change a thing.

If May 21, 2011 starts the end of the world?

Q. How will christians reinterpret Mark 13:32-33 if the Family Radio Ministry (10 members strong) gets it right that the end times will start on May 21, 2011 with a massive earthquake and the world will finally end on Oct. 21, 2011? Mark states no one will know the date or time.

I'm just curious how you would explain that. Lucky guess?
The Family Radio Ministry is a christian group, FYI.
I should have expanded that. I meant to say, "Did they just get a lucky guess?" christians are foaming at the mouth wanting the end times to come, so yes, it would be lucky for them.

Answer
Hi there - good question.

I did not know that Camping was proclaiming then end of the world in May , but you were right.
I checked his web site and it said in big letters.

''THE END OF THE WORLD IS ALMOST HERE! HOLY GOD WILL BRING JUDGMENT DAY ON MAY 21, 2011''

I GUARANTEE you , the world will NOT end on that day , and Camping will be proved to be a false teacher.
The unmistakable fact is that according to Mark 13:32-33 is that no man has advanced warning of the time when the end of this world system will take place.

But for the moment lets consider how Camping and his FR is wrong.
Camping bases his 'end of the world' date using a known start date and adding 7 days.

In his view the Bible says that each day equals 1000 years.
So Camping is saying that the end will be at the end of the seventh day , which is 7000 years., and by his calculations that comes to May 2011.

Unfortunately his calculations are based on a fundamental error.

His reckons that a day truly is , and is exactly 1000 years.
Camping and co' believe this as they take the account of creation to be a literal 7 days long.

Exodus 20:11 .''For in six days Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything that is in them, and he proceeded to rest on the seventh day.''

However, the Bible does NOT says that 1 day for God EQUALS 1000 years in man's time.

It says this instead.

Psalm 84:10 ''For a day in your courtyards is better than a thousand [elsewhere]. I have chosen to stand at the threshold in the house of my God Rather than to move around in the tents of wickedness.''

2 Peter 3:8  ''.However, let this one fact not be escaping YOUR notice, beloved ones, that one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. ''

The scriptures may seem to indicate that a day is a thousand years but it does NOT say that it is equal.

This next verse goes contrary to the idea that 1000 years equals one day , it now compares it to a mere night watch , which is obviously far less than 1 day.

Psalm 90:4 ''For a thousand years are in your eyes but as yesterday when it is past, And as a watch during the night.''

In the next verse we see another reference of a day with God , and it too does not indicate that the day is equal to 1000 years in man's time.

Revelation 16:14 .''-- to gather them together to the war of the great day of God the Almighty.''

When you go through all the instances where a day and God are concerned the vast majority of them do not indicate a specific time duration , and definitely nothing to indicate that one day equals 1000 years.

On Campings site he did not show any scriptual proof to back the claim that 1000 years equals one day., because there is none.

This is a most fundamental requirement for his 'theory' and his teaching to be true.

The facts is , according to the Bible is that days are not fixed in duration , they can be short or long.
Some people have a problem understanding this , especially when it comes to the creation account in Genesis , but it is really very straight forward.

I am a man, I used to work building houses , it was a hard job.
Some days I was at work from sun up to well past sun down.,, on other days my work day was only a few hours long if I accomplished the days assigned tasks quickly.
This is not hard to comprehend , my work days varied in length , but I can still call them quite correctly , my work days.
Just as my work days varied in the exact time length so can Gods.

Jehovah Gods work days vary in duration and he kept going until the task set out upon was completed.
When looking back on the creation account , this means that some days could have been millions if not billions of years long , and some may have been very short by comparison....Whatever it took to get the job done.

So back to Camping.
His whole theory is based on fixed 1000 years days , but this is NOT supported in the Bible.

Camping is simply WRONG., and he is misleading his listeners.

Matthew 15:14 ''LET them be. Blind guides is what they are. If, then, a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit.â

By his own words he will prove that he is not following the true God of the Bible - Jehovah.

Matthew 7:15-16  ''âBe on the watch for the false prophets that come to YOU in sheepâs covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves.  By their fruits YOU will recognize them''

Good places to go tent camp in Colorado?

best tent camping in colorado on Wilderness Press :: Camping :: The Best in Tent Camping: Colorado, 4ed
best tent camping in colorado image

jarrettluk

Me and my brother are planning a trip for August and want to know a good campsite to go camping at. We are strictly tent campers and would like to find a campsite that is more secluded close to the mountains with less RV's. We would also like to find a campsite that is pretty close to other activities such as rafting, hiking and other outdoor stuff.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Well, you could take a two - four day hike up Mt. Buffalo, and stay in the pass. My family and I did that, and it was lots of fun. There are trails, but no roads, so i highly doubt you'll find RV's up there :D.

What are the best tent camping resorts in Colorado?

ash

me and my soon to be husband are going for our honeymoon but I want to pick the best, most beautiful, most fun place to go. Where we can go to the spa, swim, horseback ride, hike, ski, bike, maybe sports like tennis, and do a lot of different things since we are planning to be there for two weeks. thank you!

Answer
Ash, I'm not aware of any tent camping resorts in Colorado. There are resorts and there are tent camping sites, but I don't think I have ever heard of them combined. Is that what you are looking to find?

Anyway, what time of year to plan to come to Colorado, there are many fun things to do, but it might be difficult to both bike and ski unless you come in the spring or early summer.

It also depends on your budget, skiing at the major resorts can be very expensive ($70-100 per day plus rental fees for equipment). There are plenty of smaller ski resorts around the State that are more reasonable.

Some places to do some research on...
Winter Park (great skiing, nice small town, sledding near by... also beautiful in the summer with lots of activities like mountian biking, hiking, horse riding etc. )

Estes Park (a beautiful summer and fall destination)

Vail / Beaver Creek... an amazing (and expensive) winter vacation spot.

Pagosa Springs - less expensive, great any time of year, not far from visiting Mesa Verde or riding the Durango to Silverton train.

Ouray - Known as "Little Switzerland", great any time of year, particularly great in the winter if you've ever wanted to try ice-climbing. A beautiful place for all sorts of summer adventures. I'm looking forward to taking my wife to the Chipetta spa this summer not far from there.

Steamboat Springs - what a cool mountain town, it has some of the best atmosphere in the state. Skiing & hot springs are excellent in the winter. Hikes, horses, bikes, and hot springs are king of the summer activities.

Aspen - Whoa, now here's a town that will really leave an impression. This is likely my favorite area to backpack in the State. I haven't skied here yet, but all the resorts in the area are world class. This would really be an amazing honeymoon spot any time of year, but I'm not sure how close to town you'll be able to stay if you want to use a tent for your accommodations.

I would suggest planning on staying in hotels or resorts for several nights of your trip to make the whole experience a bit more pleasant for a romantic get-away.

Bed and Breakfasts are a fun way to travel around Colorado, you may be able to work your way around to a several parts of the State in two weeks time.

If you fly to Colorado, you will most likely fly into Denver or Colorado Springs for affordable prices. But, if you are among the super rich you can also fly into Vail, Aspen, and Steamboat to cut drive time significantly from Denver.

We are flying into San Francisco in the middle of May to go camping. We would like either beach access, or redwoods, or both would be great. Something within 3 hours of San Fran where we could rent a cabin (we will consider tent camping but flying with all the gear would be difficult). We will have a 3 year old with us so something kid friendly with rangers/security of some kind is needed. Right now we are mostly looking at Big Basin, but we are searching for other options as well. Any suggestions?

Answer
You might want to look into a KOA Cabin. They have several locations throughout the state.
Since you were thinking about Big Basin here is a link to the one in Santa Cruz County.

I want to go tent camping at Lake George
and I want a woodsy site. Which is the best campground
that would have such a site?
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!

Answer
New York State has a lovely affordable campground at Moreau Lake, its about 15 mins from Lake George (Moreau is just off exit 17 on the NYS Thruway)(Lake George is exit 20).The sites are sandy, drive in sites and there is a beach and hiking as well. Check out the web site, I go every year and enjoy it. Its also near Saratoga Race Track! Have fun.

Can I camp in a New York State Park at 18?

Andrew K

So im 18 years old and planning a hiking trip in about 2 weeks with a friend. We are probably going somewhere in the Adirondack Mountains.

I was told by someone you have to be 21 years old or with someone who is over 21 in order to stay at a state park. Is this true?

Answer
Sure why not? You dont have to be 21 to my knowledge, I was camping with friends (oldest being 16 at the time) in NY state park and the rangers had no issue with it. As far asa getting permits go for certain shelters in the 'dacks you may need to be 21 to get one. (I`ve only applied for permits after I was 21 so I obviously never ran into an issue) If you are planning on tenting I wouldnt worry about it. Also, you may not be allowed into the 'dacks without a bear canister.

Do I need to worry about a bear attack in North Georgia?

I am taking a trip to the Blue Ridge area of North Georgia with some family who are staying in a cabin in October. I haven't been camping in a while and I wanted to take my backpack and tent and go on an overnight trip. The only thing is I'm nervous about bears. I live in Columbus Ga and usually go camping in the Pine Mountain area which I know alot better than North Ga due to the fact I've never been. Should I be cautious in October? Any pointers?

Answer
well usually if you do run into a bear just flap your arms and scream, it will think your after its eggs and fly back to its nest
