Answer
it's the best time of your life when you're young and about junior high age. I haven't been back since. I'm sure older people go with their own children or find ways to have fun on their own time. But I wouldn't know about the adult activities. I just went there about 3 times in my youth.

as far as specifics, GSP is located about 100 miles west of San Antonio in the hill country. The hills are pretty cool if you are from parts of Texas that have no hills. There is the Frio River that goes through the middle of the park. People of all ages enjoy tubing as there are several stretches of rapids. The size of the rapids depends on how much rain the region has had. There are some summers where the river is almost dry in places. None of the rapids are going to be like the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon mind you! lol...but it's still fun. kinda like the Guadalupe. Unlike the Guadalupe, I do not believe you are allowed to carry beer on the river in the state park portions. But I may be wrong about that. Either way, they do sell beer at the park at a convenience store (some adults I knew drank).

Every night people go to a dance hall where they play country and western dancing. Everyone seems to get into this even if you don't like country dancing because that's just the thing to do at GSP. When in Rome...

This is where I learned to two step back in junior high even though I didn't care for country music too too much back then. It's also where I stole my first kiss.

That's why so many young people like it, esp. junior high age. A lot of first crushes happen here.

There's also a put put golf course near the dancehall.

Aside from that, it's pretty much days filled on the river. Also they have some pretty cool rope swings for the kids to play on.

There are cabins to rent, or you can get electric/water hookups if you have a camper. You can also camp out in a tent if you wish too.

LAST BUT MOST IMPORTANT...
Book your reservations now if you want to go this summer. Garner fills up quickly as soon as they start taking reservations which if I remember correctly is right now. But you might call and find out to make sure. It might be April. Again, I forgot about that.

Borrow a camper if you can and hook it up to a lot with electricity. GSP can be hot in the summer.

Working Holiday: How are the living arrangements organised for a working holiday?

Omi

I would like to go on a working holiday to another country. However, I do not know how the living arrangements are set up.
It would be great if someone who has done a working holiday before could help me out with this question.

Answer
All a working holiday visa does is it allows you to enter the country to live and work for a period of time. Beyond that, everything else is up to you.

Any more specific answer about how to go about finding accommodation will depend to at least some extent on the country.

In Australia for example, most people on WHVs travel around the country picking up casual work as they go. They stay in youth and backpacker hostels for a few days or a week or so at a time; they rent or buy camper vans and stay in them; they carry small tents and camping equipment and stay in camping grounds; when they want to stay somewhere for several months, they rent a room in shared accommodation. If they want to stay for 6 months or longer in one place, they may rent an apartment but in Australia at least, that's not easy to do if they don't have a steady job - most will go for shared accommodation where the other tenant/s hold the lease.

Answer
Newest Australian Fun Facts:

* Apparently the first European settlers in Australia drank more alcohol per person than any other community in the history of mankind.
* Australian mines (one of our most important industries, which accounts for 15% of Australia's GDP) cover 0.02% of Australia's land mass. More land is occupied by pubs. (Can't find any statistics on the GDP here. My guess is: substantial)
* In 1954 Bob Hawke made it into the Guinness Record Book: he sculled 2.5 pints of beer in 11 seconds. Bob Hawke went on to become the Prime Minister of Australia.

Fun Facts About Australia - The Latest Stories

Crocodile Slams Into Tree
Who do you think was more scared? The Australian family camping in Kakadu National Park who woke up when a three metre crocodile tried climbing up on their tent? Or the crocodile, when the family started screaming?

The poor croc turned straight around and raced back towards the water, unfortunately overlooking the tree in its way. The tree lost a fair bit of bark and there were two big wet circles where the croc's nose had slammed into the tree...

I Can't Find Uluru
A tourist from New South Wales had to stop another vehicle to ask for directions to Ayers Rock. Nothing strange or funny about it?

Well, Ayers Rock is huge (348 metres high), is the only significant feature along the only road in the area, and he was right in front of the rock with his headlights shining on it! You'd think you'd notice, wouldn't you?

Nope. He pulled over the next car coming along, to ask for directions. The car looked like a ranger's vehicle to him. Well, they were cops instead and they immediately whipped out their breathalyser... 0.116. Too bad...
Fun Facts About Australia - Animals

would it be worth setting up a fishing rod at night and camping out?

Theo S

like attached to a bell so it wakes me up or something, i have no fishing experience but im doing a big cycle tour of europe and as i'd be spending almost all day cycing, im wondering weather to get a telescopic rod and set it up outside my tent when camping on the coast or would the fishies be sleeping at night, i genuinly have no clue lol someone fill me in. ta.

Answer
Wooooooowwww.....grand adventure. I love cycling in Europe but I've been lucky.
I was in Germany for a few years and from UK we get cheap flights and ferries so I've done quite a lot of Europe on a bike either camping on sites or wild camping ( not allowed in some countires, eg Slovenia and southern Germany because of the danger from bears and wolves) or staying in backpacker hostels.
Mixing both gets you a hot shower and a chance to catch up with the laundry, some good company, and relative luxury for a day or two before the next wilderness leg of the trip.
Some tips on mine here..booking hostels, campsites, etc.
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100210102633AAe5mQM . . .

The telescopic rod is a good idea. Mine is a few years old and before that I used one for eleven years that cost peanuts from a market stall in Singaore and it kept me in food from lakes and rivers and the sea just as well as an expensive rod would.
My current one is made by Shakespeare but other firms like Daiwa do good telescopics that will last a long time.
Leaving a rod unattended though isn't a good idea at all.
For that kind of fishing use a hand line. Or do as we do at home and I've also done on beach camps when the tide is right.
When there is a low tide in the evening so the high tide is overnight, peg out some short lengths of line with baited hooks way out on the sands or rocks. Use long pegs sunk deep into the sand using a rock as a mallet. Tie them to rocks if you can't peg them.
You can do it in daylight if nobody is going to get caught and injured walking around hooks and lines ....be careful with them if there are people around.
You'll need to wait for the tide to get low again to get to the hooks but overnight you're hanging around there to sleep anyway so waiting hours for the tide isn't a problem.
Strong braided line is best, which you can cut from a hand line wound onto a plastic or wooden frame bought cheaply in any seaside town.
http://ny-image3.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.129472531.jpg . . . ..
Use 1/0 or similar hooks...ask in a fishing shop for that size or just look at the packets. It's always in big letters what size the hooks are.
http://ukpokerchipsets.co.uk/images/KAMASAN-B950u-UPTIDE-SEA-HOOKS-1-0.jpg . . . .
Bait can be bits of fish or meat or some limpets cut from the rocks or worms dug from the sand. Limpets are good. They're tough and they stay on a hook while the sea is bashing it. Two or three on a 1/0 hook will encouage bigger fish to get interested instead of little ones.
Come back when the tide is out again and retrieve any fish you may have caught. A dozen hooks will pretty well guarantee a fish for breakfast and you might get a few.
Here's a simple way to cook limpets so if you don't get any fish you can still eat from the sea.

What's the cheapest way to get ferry's and coaches around europe?

amazondebs

I'm a student and me and some of my friends are going to go round europe for a few weeks, camping in various places, whats the cheapest way to do this and I mean really cheap. We're literally just taking a tent and some clothing with us.

Answer
Early booking for the coach companies, Eurolines is most often mentioned: http://www.eurolines.com/
In the UK you can also use Megabus, can only be booked online:
http://uk.megabus.com/default.aspx
Other countries may also have cheap coach companies, but not in all countries the bus is the best option. I think you should try google for more companies.
Within France, the Netherlands and Belgium you will not find many or even any cheap coach options, but between these countries and from them to the rest of Europe you will find cheap bus/coach travel.

In some countries the train can be almost as cheap and have more options. In Germany there are special tickets for people traveling together on the slow trains, very cheap but not fast. More flexible than the bus though:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?newrequest=yes&protocol=http:&

A good site for train info is: http://www.seat61.com/

'Remember that farther east is mostly cheaper, as soon as you are beyond Germany, Switzerland and Austria and Italy.
Countryside and small towns are cheaper than capital cities, certainly when camping.
If you are from the UK you might be able to get a cheap flight to Eastern Europe for less than you would pay on the ferry to the continent.
http://www.skyscanner.net/ or a site like it.

If this is not cheap enough yet, you can try organized hitchhiking, this is a German site, there are more, Google can help you out: http://www.mitfahrzentrale.de/index.php?landnr=D&lang=GB
And in case you hit the bad weather jackpot, couch surfing:
http://www.couchsurfing.org/ or http://www.hospitalityclub.org/ and again there are more sites to be found.

What is the difference between a bridal shower gift and a wedding present?

tents for camping target on en nee TS gaat niet tentje uitvouwen stretcher erin en de boel weer op ...
tents for camping target image

Kristie

My friend is getting married soon, and today I just got an invite to her bridal shower. It's an afternoon event in a park. (so nothing wild)

The invite says they are registered at Target and a local bridal shop (unfortunately I'm out of state till the event).

But do people use the same registry for both? Because it was like all household items on the registry...

So is there a difference between the gift for the bridal shower and the wedding present, or should I just buy things for both off the one registry?

Answer
There is no difference between a bridal shower gift and a wedding present except that a shower gift is given at a shower and a wedding present is sent to the person's house or given at the wedding. The shower gifts are typically bought off of the same registry as the wedding presents. For the shower gift, you could buy something that you know that the bride specifically would like/use (for example, if they registered for any movies, you'd buy the one you know the bride likes....or if she likes to go camping, you'd buy the tent or sleeping bag that is on the registry, etc).

As always (with a wedding or a shower) you can always buy a gift that isn't on the registry -- at my shower I got a lot of picture frames and other items that weren't on my registry, but that I still liked.

I think that maybe you might be confusing showers with bachelorette parties. (Showers aren't typically "wild" so that shouldn't surprise you....in fact, showers are typically held by elderly relatives....and people usually DO give household items for the shower, so that shouldn't be surprising either.....that's why I'm wondering whether you're confusing the shower with the bachelorette party.)

I'd buy something off of the Target registry and have it sent to the host's house so that it's there for the bride to open when you go to the shower.

Good luck!

How to loose weight on my thighs in 3 days?

rainbowzz

Okay , this might sounds crazy but i really need this. I am not a skinny person and i need to loose some weight in my thighs. I am tall but still have big thighs.

So I am going camping with a bunch of freinds and I have to bring shorts but I am not confident with my legs but I sais sure, I don't what I was thinking. Now I have the trip in 3 days. Please I need to loos some extra weight.

And I need to know what to pack at a basic camping trip because this is my first time going camping. I need to know the basics and etc...
So please help with this I would be grateful and to show you how grateful I am You will get 10 points so please help me.

Answer
You won't like to hear this, but I've read in countless places that you can't target and lose fat in just one area of your body- it pretty much goes off naturally all over.
That being said, I still think you could do it.
Try this:
Compose a workout of mostly cardio with some exercises focussed on your thighs (I.e wall sits and squats)
And eat healthy. Green tea is linked to weight loss. You COULD try a crash diet. Those are good for working fast, they just don't work very long... And they aren't all that good for you, you'll likely gain the weight back later, but I'm trying my best to help out here!
_____
FIRST CAMPING TRIP MUST HAVES:
1. Flashlight. Goes without being said, you'll need it.
2. Warm PJs and a sleeping bag! If you're sleeping in a cabin or tent, you wanna dress warm for bed. Temps drop at night, plus masquitos are less likely to bite you through thick clothes. Which leads to-
3. Bug spray. Or a bug repellant of some kind. Masquitos and fire ants are brutal!
4.Light snacks. Trail mix, protien bars, marshmellows, chips. Whatever you prefer, a ziplock bag of food can be nice to have.
5. Your best ghost story;)
6. Matches. You could be a lifesaver!

Anything else you bring is up to you. Don't forget a toothbrush, clothes (duh), and whatever other just plain going-somewhere-overnight-necessities you may need!

I'm planning to book sites via the online reservation system, all of the ones I liked said only one tent is allowed, but I'm going with another family so we have two tents. The lots are pretty big I don't know why they said only one is allowed, I'm pretty it fits two or more tents. My question is: is this like a mandatory 'law' that we have to follow or is it more like a suggestion? Thanks!!

Answer
I really don't think they would have mentioned it if they didn't mean it.

Depending on the style of campground, campsites may be literally one touching another, so if you get three campsites in a row that have chosen to have an extra tent on each, then it can be so crowded it feels more like a refugee camp than a park. I suggest that you call the campground to see if you can reserve two sites right next to or across from each other, so that you can basically treat it as a single site with different members of your party walking back and forth, but the tents being divided between them. That way, you will be assured of having plenty of room.

Where should i go camping to see waterfalls and hike mountain trails in northeast US?

Deidra B

I want to plan a camping trip this September and want to be near a mountain range and see a waterfall. I'm not rving or going in a trailer. Just tents with my bf and I. Some websites say a campground is open and other sites say the same ground is closed indefinitely, so I'm quite frustrated now. Can you give me some places to camp near a mountain range and a waterfall?? Preferably near pa or ny. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Adirondack Mountains.

You might also like Algonquin National Park a little further north in Ontario (no mountains, but beautiful and there are a few small waterfalls).

I've been checking around for primitive camping sites in the Northern Florida Panhandle and Gulf Shores, Alabama where the tents can be set up on the beach instead of nearby areas. It seems that most camping areas are now set as RV parks and tent camping always seems to be delegated to remote locations away from the beach. We are looking for the experience of sleeping near the water to be able to fall asleep hearing the waves.

Answer
Gulf Coast State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama has primitive camp sites but again it is across from the beach but still within walking distance. I believe there are regulations on camping on coastal properties that no longer allow "Beach camping"

I've been hoping to make my own tent for winter camping, and I want to be able to have a fire or stove inside the tent. I've looked at all sort of designs and want to know if anyone on here has any experiences and advice they could share? Including:
1. Where did you get your canvas from?
2. How hard was it to transfer your tent/tipi from site to site?
3. What did you use for poles/structure?
Thanks!

Answer
I have not made my own wall tent, but I do know folks that have. They got there canvas from Panther Primitives online, and used this stuff called tear mender to put it together basicly glued the whole thing together, Ive seen it and it works! I bought my wall tent from Panther, but cut my own polls from fir trees . If youve got a pick up truck you can haul most set ups ,just make a rack for your truck, out of 2x4s.

What should I bring for a winter camping trip?

Nadine

I went camping three times last summer. Now I am planning a winter camping trip and I wonder what special camping equipment should I take since the weather is really cold.

Answer
Warm Winter Clothes
Some waterproof cloth are preferable for a winter camping as cloth in other materials will be easy to get wet no matter couse the snow, rain or your sweat and will take a long time to dry them. Therefore,no matter for the camping tent or wearings, wool or synthetic materials will be good choice. Whatâs more, the have to make sure the clothes you wear are easy to put off to accommdate with the changing weather or the difference in and out of the marquee. Besides the cloth you wear, the socks, Gaiters and sturdy, well-insulated boots will make you journey easier.

Cold-Weather Sleeping Bag
A well-insulated, cold-weather sleeping bag is an essential winter camping item. Most sleeping bags note on the label or somewhere on the exterior the minimum temperature they can withstand before losing heat. Bring a winter sleeping bag that will keep you warm in temperatures well below those you expect to encounter. Placing a water bottle filled with hot water will help heat up your bag as well. Always sleep on top of some kind of sleeping pad to prevent losing heat to the cold ground. Choose a mummy-style sleeping bag with a hood so that you stay covered throughout the night.

High-Caloric Balanced Foods
Caloric requirements are higher in winter because you need more energy to stay warm. Bring about 50 percent simple sugars and complex carbohydrates such as rice, bread, dried fruit, candy and cereal. About 20 percent of your food supply should be proteins like meat, fish, eggs and nuts. Thirty percent should be fats like cheese, butter, pepperoni and salami. Depending on your daily activities, youâll need to consume between 1,500 (basal metabolism) and 4,500 calories (winter backpacking). Be sure to bring ingredients for hot drinks like tea, cider or hot cocoa.

Snow-Proof Winter Tent
The choice of camping tents in the winter camping is the most important thing you have to consider as it will be the teporary shelter for you. For a winter camping, pop up tents you choose must be snow avoidable and be sturdy to surpport the dropping snow. Make you sure that the marquee tent is big enough to handle all the bulky you bring as they are much more than camping in warm weather, especilly for family camping tents. Just check all the essentials you need for camping and recheck the camping gears before start off.

Park

My friend and I want to drive from Texas to California to camp on the beach for a week or two depending on cost. We would like to stay somewhere that's a little more secure, less crowded, and most importantly inexpensive.

Answer
The public campgrounds used to book up to a year in advance but that just changed this year, now its a first come first served setup. Campgrounds in so-cal are always full, but from Santa Barbara north there is always available spots, the people seem to be a little more friendly also. Cost wise, if you are tent camping its about 8 dollars a night, rvs are about 20 with electric and water hook ups. I recommend Gaviota State Beach. Have a good trip!

Where's the best tent camping in November in southern California?

veropie13

Don't want to go to the beach again and don't want to freeze at the Grand Canyon.

Answer
The best camping is at Carpinteria State Beach... In fact, most of the best sites in SoCal are at the beach: El Capitan, Refugio, McGrath, Broome, Leo Carillos, Doheny, San Clemente, South Carlsbad and San Elijo. They are far and away the most popular sites.

However, at this late date, you don't have much of a chance of scoring a site, especially around Thansgiving.

Your best bet might be Lake Cachuma, where it's first-come, first-served. Good luck.
-----------
Joshua Tree is going to be almost as cold as the Grand Canyon. It is the high desert. Expected lows for this weekend are expected to be 34 degrees.

Need a fairly cheap tent campground with basic bathroom and drinking water facilities near hiking trail(s). Looking to head there Friday evening after work and return Sunday evening on a train and/or bus.

Thanks!

Answer
Floyd Bennett Field
Manhattanites have always considered Brooklyn to be something of a wilderness, but it may still come as a surprise to learn that you can actually camp thereâand weâre not talking about sleeping on the sidewalk. This abandoned-airport-turned-national-park in Marine Park has room for about 100 campers, each site with a fire pit and picnic tableâand not much else. (It may be the only place in New York City where holes in the ground are considered acceptable bathroom facilities.) Itâs a little slice of serenityâ¦with bonus noise from JFK-bound planes that occasionally fly nearby!
Price: $50 per campsite for a three-night stay.
Getting there: Take the 2 or 5 train (at rush hour) to Flatbush Avenue and transfer to the Rockaway Parkâbound Q35 bus. Call 718-338-3799 for reservations.

Where in the Albany area should I camp?

I drive a 20 foot camper van. I *do not want hookups, too expensive*. Just tent camping / primitive camping where you can park your vehicle on site. The cheaper the better. Anywhere in the Albany area you'd recommend? It's hard to find camping open this late in the year.

Answer
albany ny??? the adk loj up near lake placid is open all year--only about 2 hours from albany and in the heart of the High Peaks..about a mile from the loj is a dirt road called south meadow with free campsites but you can thave a fire is the only catch

My children and I have been tent camping regularly in National Forest areas and I would like to continue, but the recent bear attack on the poor boy in Utah has me thinking twice. I do not own a gun and so far have just followed the no food in camp rule as a precaution. What can I do to protect myself and my children other than not going?

I would get information on bear safety and stay away from areas that have seen many bears in the area. Here are some links to teach you about bear safety

I noticed there is a tear in my canvas camping tent. Can it be fixed? How to do that?

Answer
1. Sew the sides of the damaged area together. This is similar to sewing clothing, except that thick canvas may require a large needle or awl and heavy duty or waxed string. These materials are available at outdoor specialty stores.

2. Spread seam sealer or beeswax to the sewn seam. This product is available at outdoor and camping specialty stores, and can vary depending on the make of your tent (canvas or nylon). Follow all product instructions and warnings for proper application details, including drying time.

3. Line up one of the patches so that it is centered with the inside area of the tear. The patch should be larger than the damaged area on all sides by at least 2 inches. Secure the patch with glue, which can also vary depending on the make of your tent. Follow product instructions for drying time; be sure the adhesive is completely dry before continuing.

4. Sew the patch into place to fully secure it. Using adhesive and stitches will help prevent the tear from spreading or from opening again.

5. Spread seam sealer or wax over the sewn seams and the edges of the patch for optimal protection.

6. Line up, glue and sew the other patch to the outside of the tear. Be sure that it lines up with the inner patch, as the two should be the same size. Apply sealer or wax to the seams and the edges of the patch.

How to stay warm in camping tent in winter?

Anita

I have never gone winter camping and I will do that next week. I want to know how to stay warm in camping tent in such cold day. Anyone knows that?

Answer
1. Learn about heat loss and you will come to better understand how to stay warm in the backcountry. Heat is primarily lost through conduction, convection, radiation and evaporation. For example heat could be lost from sitting on a cold rock, from wind chill, from not wearing a hat and heat escaping, or respiration. Besides warming up near the camp stove people can only generate heat by keeping up their metabolism, exercising and shivering if need be.

2. Layering properly is the first thing winter backpackers can do to regulate heat. This means non-cotton, moisture wicking base layers and mid-layers, insulated layers such as a down vest and jacket and down pants and weather proof outer layers. A hat and balaclava or neck gaiter is also necessary as are liner socks and socks made with wool. Down camp booties aren't necessary but make your world much more comfortable. Mountaineering or plastic boots with insulated liners are what to hike in through snow and ice and liner gloves and insulated over-mitts are what will keep your fingers moving.

3. Stay dry and pace yourself. The point of all these layers is not to wear them all at once but to control the four primary losses of heat while hiking. Staying dry is crucial. Don't let yourself get too sweaty because as soon as you stop for a break your sweat begins to freeze. Wearing things that dry easily and wick moisture such as polypropylene, capilene, synthetic or wool are the way to go whether you are hiking, snowshoeing or backcountry skiing. Keep yourself properly hydrated too, as loss of heat happens from loss of moist exhalation.

4. Make your camp in such a way that you take advantage of the elements. After anchoring your tents in the snow, dig out a 3 by 2-foot area in front of your tent door at least 12 inches into the snow. This acts as an entryway where you can sit in your tent while hanging your feet out to change out of your boots and camp booties without bringing wet snow inside the tent. One or two-wall nylon tents work fine though one-wall tents are a bit lighter. Using at least one sleeping pad is necessary for winter camping as you need to insulate yourself from the cold ground and snow. More than one sleeping pad is recommended. Either use a shorter foam pad beneath your inflatable one or sleep on your extra layers at night. This also dries them out.

5. Sleep warm. Make sure to eat a bit more than you think you can handle and have plenty of hot drinks before getting into your sleeping bag on a night of winter backpacking. Your metabolism not only has to deal with the workout you've had during the day but also has to keep you warm through the cold night. Before getting into your bag fill up a water bottle with boiling water from the stove, slip a sock or shirt over it so it doesn't burn your skin and sleep with this in your bag, sleep with two of them if necessary.

6.Make sure that you keep your sleeping bag as dry as possible, especially if it is made of down as this material loses its warmth when wet. If you are generally a cold person, get a sleeping bag that is rated at least 10 to 20 degrees colder than you think you might need. Also sleep with boot liners so they aren't frozen when you try to wiggle your toes in there the following morning. Use a small 2 by 2-foot square cut from a role of sleeping pad foam and kneel on it while cooking or taking a break, to insulate from the snow at all times.

What is an ideal tent for 2 people?

best 4-person tents for camping on COOL Camping tent Like a plane 3 4 person Waterproof Automatic tent ...
best 4-person tents for camping image

nana

The thing is we're looking for an ideal tent to go camping.
The criteria:
-I'm quite big (6.06 feet)
-we would like to fit a 2 person mattress in it
-we'd like to have enough space to fit in our luggage (two big bags)
-our budget is around 150$

It seems that most tents are either not long enough (my feet are coming out of the tent if I lie down) or it is too much of a tunnel (meaning our heads will touch the tent if we use the mattress for comfort).

Most tents I've found so far are 4 person tents which are reaaally expensive or have some flaws like it might rain inside if there's a bit of wind.

Answer
Get a Coleman Instatent 4, it has all the room that you need for less than $100.

I want to go camping this weekend but I don't know where to go. This is what I am looking for. Somewhere in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey or anywhere else not to far from NYC. I want to go tent camping and I am looking for something secluded, meaning I don't want to be at a campground with other people and RVs, I want just a random place in the woods where it will be just me and my friends. And it would be nice if they have a river or lake nearby.

Answer
In PA you can camp in the state forest land with no one camping near you. You will need a permit (free) and they will either mail it or fax it to you. Check out the website www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/camping

This site has maps and shows you trails and things to do while camping. It will also tell you how to obtain a camping permit.

Have fun!!

Are there any pet friendly campsite/swimming areas in the north eastern part of Missouri?

best tent camping kansas on Kansas Camping - Best Places to Go Camping in Kansas

Ashley K

I have looked around the web a bit and I can't seem to find much. We live around Kansas City and don't want to travel more than an hour or two, but we would love for the whole family to be able to camp, including our dog. A lot of the campsites are pet friendly but what do you do with your dog when the family goes swimming in the lake or river?

Answer
You might try this:
www.basswoodresort.com
www.mostateparks.com/twainpark
www.campdownunder.com

Looks like a good alternative to tent sleeping and this way you could keep you and your dog in a safer place than a tent (weather and otherwise!)

Crate your dog while you swim - provide plenty of water and shade if outside and his/her favorite toy or chewie. Keep the crate within sight or if you have an RV or a cabin keep the door locked. Or have one family member play with the dog, etc. and take turns swimming.
Here is a link on how to camp/swim with a dog.
Hope you find what you are looking for!

Where is a good place for a river/float/camping trip?

My friends and I would like to go on a camping trip this summer. We are picturing canoeing down a river and camping in a tent on the shore in like a forest I guess. We want the river to be very easy to navigate with no danger possible. We live in Kansas and don't want to drive more than 7 hours; we were thinking somewhere in Arkansas or South or North Dakota. What's a good spot for camping in California on 4th of July?

Ryan Corsa

We're a group of probably around ten people or less looking for a tent camping site near a lake and hiking. We're trying to find somewhere that won't be too strict on curfew and noise levels. (We plan on drinking... a lot.) The closer to southern California, the better.

Answer
Your to late to reserve anything for the 4th of july, those great sites were booked 3 months ago. That leaves first come sites. You want water and nearby hiking and few restrictions go north to the kern river above lake isabella. there are many first come sites along the river, however few services are available maybe porta toilets no showers, however you got the river. Your best chances of finding a good spot along the river is to leave home wednesday and get there quick, snooze you lose. Goldledge is a good first come campground with nearby trails that go up into higher country.$20 a night,
http://www.kernvalley.com/news/kerncamp.htm#GOLDLEDGE

Also Along the Upper Kern Canyon there are dispersed camping areas, free of charge, which are great for campers with self-contained units or large groups of people. Campfire permits are required when camping in these areas and reservations are not accepted. However, camping and the use of campfires are not permitted within 25 feet of the river's edge, streams or trails. Chemical toilets and trash receptacles are provided in most of these areas for your convenience. In areas that do not provide these services, PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN. Especially, diapers, toilet paper, and human waste.

Road tripping to Vancouver to Denver this summer, best 2 man tent?

best tent camping vancouver island on The most popular spots are Schoen Creek, Nisnak Creek and upstream ...
best tent camping vancouver island image

Jay

Me and a friend or two are graduating college and want to drive to Vancouver and mostly camp along the way. I want a reliable two man tent, I have always trusted North Face gear but of course it can be a little expensive. I need one that is good in the rain and that can withstand wind. Any ideas? Also any suggestions on where to camp? Our main destination is Vancouver Island, hear its a pretty cool place.

Answer
If you're mainly car camping, I'd recommend something bigger than a strictly 2-man tent. They're pretty cozy, and if you don't have to carry it far (maybe even just have to dump it out of the trunk) the extra space is worth the slight weight gain to have some elbow room, more height to sit up or get dressed, etc. Some good brands include TNF, Sierra Designs, MEC, Mountain Hardwear, Hilleberg...
Experienced BC campers usually set up their tent, no matter how waterproof it is, under a good sized tarp (the blue ones found at any hardware store) to scare the rain gods away. It doesn't actually rain much here in the summer, but a storm or two is never out of the question, particularly on the Island. Have fun!

Quiet beach spot around Vancouver that you might even be able to set a camping tent just for a day?

mohsen

I'm looking for a beach in Vancouver with minimum traffic that ideally you're the only couple in there. Any suggestion?? Thanks :)

Answer
It's illegal to camp on beaches around Vancouver (for public health reasons, among others). That's true of any densely populated urban area like it anywhere in the US or Canada. If they did not enforce such measures the beaches would be clogged with squatters and the cities would have to maintain toilet facilities and other services to avoid befouling the areas.

Closest place nearby I can think of would be to rent kayaks in Deep Cove, northwest of the city, and paddle up to the end of Indian Arm fiord to camp there.

Or take the ferry to Vancouver Island and find camping areas near the shores there. Most areas restrict camping actually on beaches anyway. You have to be set back a ways from the actual beaches for various reasons including interfering with day use and natural habitats and the fact that most people are clueless about the levels that the tides reach on coastlines.
