Do Illinois Walmarts have guns and recreation sections?

I'm trying to write a little story that starts in an almost post apocalyptic town in Illinois. Here in Arkansas we have a gun section and a camping aisle I was wondering if walmarts there had guns and tents and stuff?

Answer
Well it really does depend on the state like i use to live in New York and after 911 no bb guns or airsoft guns. Never had regular guns but now in South Carolina they only have airsoft and bb guns no real guns.

What's your favorite activity to do with your children?

Greywolf

I'm looking for new ideas for family time. When giving your answer, please give the ages of your kids. THANKS!

Answer
I can't speak to my favorite activity to do with my kids as I don't have any yet, but I can tell you what my favorite activites were with my parents when I was growing up.

The zoo was a perennial favorite for me and my siblings, throughout our entire lives (we currently range in age from 16 to 26). I loved going on hikes with my mom in our local parks and forest reserves, as we took bird and flower books and learned to identifiy the different species. One of the reserves we went to also had an interactive area where we could hold snakes, lizards, turtles, watch bees in their colony, etc. I grew up with a deep respect for nature and a knowledge of all things natural that few of my peers have. Along those same lines, we loved going to the Natural History Museum and seeing the stuffed animals and skeletons. We also took this love of the outdoors and nature to our annual vactations, where we visited almost every state within driving distance and went camping - not RV camping, but tent camping. We camped at the headwaters of the Missouri river in Minnesota, in the badlands of South Dakota, in the forests of Arkansas....camping is still a favorite activity as an adult, and it teaches a lot of life lessons too - I'm proud that I'm not a "girly" girl and can sustain myself by building a fire, knowing what is okay to eat in the wild, building a shelter, etc. I can tie knots, set up a tent in minutes, chop firewood, etc.

We also went on many picnics, where we'd pick up KFC and take a kite and a frisbee and toss it around while enjoying the sun and outdoor family time.

Building something together was always memorable, whether it was a simple birdhouse or a more elaborate fort outside.

My mother and father were both artistic, so we had many craft times. We painted and glued our own ornaments when it was Christmas time, made paper turkeys at Thanksgiving, etc.

As we got old, family game night became the highlight of the week. It started with a few games geared toward the youngest of the kids, like Chutes and Ladders or Hi Ho Cherry-O, then when they went to bed it would continue with more advanced games like Clue, Scrabble, Sequence, Scattergories and Pictionary, and card games like Poker and UNO and May I. Right now our favorite games are Settlers of Cataan and Apples to Apples. It's a tradition I hope to continue with my children when the time comes.

When we were very small, like three and four, I remember our dad making us into pizza and we'd always clamor for him to do it again. He'd lay us out in his lap, spread us out (pretending that he was rolling out the dough), toss us in the air, then spread sauce on us, put pepporonis (or whatever kind of pizza we decided to be) on us, then sprinkle us with cheese (light tickling). Then into the "oven" where we'd cook for a few seconds and out we'd come, where we'd be gobbled up. It sounds cheesy but younger kids absolutely delight in it.

What are the 5 best camping areas on the Northern Coast of California?

We are looking for great camping areas north of San Francisco along the coast. We want to stay fairly close to the ocean, have dogs, bikes, hiking shoes and a tent. We will go as far as the Oregon border but hopefully not that far.

We hope to stay in 2-3 different locations with different environments.

What are your favorite camping areas and why?

Thanks so much!

Answer
My favorites are:

Van Damme State Park just south of Mendocino. This park has a sheltered cove that is great for kayaking (tours available), and a really nice trail up the Little River. Mendocino is worth a visit.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (Elk Prairie Campground). This park has wonderful redwood forests. Don't miss the drive out to the coast. The hike through Fern Canyon is a must.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park (almost to the Oregon border, but the best campground on the list). This is a spectacular campground on the banks of the Smith River. Stout Grove is just across the river from the campground and is one of the most magnificent groves of redwoods I've ever seen. The drive on Howland Hill road is incredible (dirt road, passable in most cars).

Not bad:

MacKerricher State Park. On the coast with lots of harbor seals.

Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Albee Creek Campground (may not have trailer sites). The nearby Rockefeller Forest is the largest old-growth redwood forest left in California. Rumors are that the tallest tree in the world is in this grove, but the people who measure these things are pretty secretive.

Any good camping spots in northern California?

DIIV

I have never been camping and I want to try it with a few friends. I live in So Cal and I hear Nor Cal has a better camping experience... So any good experiences/suggestions? Nothing too hardcore though, my survival skills in the wilderness isn't so vast... I don't even have a tent yet.

Answer
I just got back from Calavaras Big Trees SP and it was great - huge campsites, easy hikes, amazing scenery, fishable/swimmable rivers, and over half empty during the week. We also visited the local caverns and went spelunking - I highly recommend it!

Big Basin, Portola Redwoods, New Brighton, and Pfieffer Big Sur are all favorites, but can be crowded. They all have restrooms and running water - so none too hardcore. Look into ranger-led hikes before budget cuts take them away.

I'm going to be moving to Hiram, GA in late September. I would like to camp in a tent as much as i can while im down here. Where are some of the better places to camp in a tent in Georgia, within a 100 mile radius of Atlanta?

Answer
I believe Stone Mountain has a campsite and that's right there in the Atlanta area. They are very touristy and more expensive than most - but it's probably the closest to the Atlanta area that I'm familiar with.
http://www.stonemountainpark.com/lodging-camping/pricing.aspx

Also, check out the State Parks. Many offer camping and they usually are very clean and reasonable.
http://gastateparks.org/net/go/GaStateReg.aspx?s=0.0.1.5
I think Red Top is just north of Atlanta and offers camping. Many of them offer camping, just not sure which ones are closest to Atlanta.

What are some great camping spots in Georgia?

Lexi17_UGA

I love the outdoors and I have been to some great spots, but I want to try somewhere new. I am looking for a place that is free to stay if you have your own tent. I need a great view, maybe some hiking trails, and a lake or a river would be fantastic for my kayak. Any suggestions? :)

Answer
Dispersed camping in the national forests is about as free as it's going to get and have trails to hike on. Walmart parking lots don't count.

We are going to Yellowstone next month and a lot of the tent camping sites are first come first serve. So how do we get it and pay for it? At the visitors center or main gate entrance? or is there a main building at each camp site?

Answer
hey i get many details from this.when you open this link you'll find 2,3 or 4 links very top of that page.you'll go through them.

Where is a great tent campsite in yellowstone?

SailBeyond

Me and my friends are going on a camping trip up to Yellowstone National Park. We plan on tent camping. The will be between 8-10 of us going. We need to find somewhere they have a group rate that is cheap or we would just like somewhere to dry camp. We plan on leaving the first week of August.

Answer
I suggest that you do a Yellowstone National Park drive-through during a day and go dispersed camping or primitive developed camping in an adjacent National Forest or Grand Teton National Park. August is a busy and hot time to camp in Yellowstone National Park.

Look at Shoshone National Forest, Gallatin National Forest, Targhee National Forest, Custer National Forest as a few alternatives.

Looking for a great place to go with Boy Scouts?

Bradley K

I am looking for a great place to go for about a week or so with my boy scout troop from Cincinnati, Ohio. We have already been to Yellowstone and U.S.S. Yorktown, and we are looking for something new.

Answer
Hello Bradley:

Good to see you searching for activities for your Troop. Your Council Service Center should have a guide to great areas for you to visit that are close to home and are approved for Scouts.

Your troop might look into buying a copy of Scout Camps USA. This is a guidebook that a Scouter put together that outlines all of the offerings of all the Scout-owned properties in the USA. It lists activities, merit badges offered, nearby attractions, etc. Visit http://www.scoutcampsusa.com/ for more information.

Another great site is http://bsacamps.org/ .

Our troop took a northern canoe trip about 10 years ago, cost was about $150/person at that time. We launched from Ely, MN, and canoed the boundary waters. Five days on the water, four nights under canvas, the outfitter supplied canoes, food, and tents. We only brought clothes and fishing poles. (those that fished had to buy MN license). I think this is the group, http://www.boundarywatersoutfitters.com/ There are about three in the area, but this will give you ideas.

If you visit the Scout Forums site, there are other many great ideas there as well. http://www.scouter.com/Forums/

During your winter school break, you might want to attend Okpik winter camping school at the Tahosa High Adventure Camp in Ward, Colorado. This is one of the best camping experiences you will have. You will be camping in snow Caves 10,000 ft. above sea level, and learning how to have a blast in the snow. On the way in or out, you can stop by Eldora Mountain Resort for some alpine or nordic skiing.

where is the best place in minnesota for secluded camping?

David

im looking for a campsite on a lake that is very secluded. it doesnt need any facilities just a place to set up a couple tents and have a place for a fire. preferably something less than 1 or 2 hours from saint paul

Answer
People in Minnesota love their camping, so sometimes finding something secluded is a challenge. Your best bets are going to be places that you can't drive up to the campsite, but need to hike to, even if it's just 1 mile from the parking lot to the campsite.

Two parks with campgrounds that require hiking are Lake Maria and Afton.
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/lake_maria/index.html
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/afton/index.html

Frontenac has campsites you can drive up to, but is often an overlooked park by most people. The hiking trails have some beautiful views of the Mississippi though.
http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/frontenac/maps.html

The ultimate for secluded camping would be the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It's a 6-8 hour drive though, depending on what section you visit. You might see/hear people during the day, but by evening, everyone settles into their campsites and they're spaced far enough apart that you don't hear anyone. I take 2-3 trips there a year.

Another option that's only 3-4 hours away is the Superior Hiking Trail. You get to see a lot of the same types of wilderness you'd see in the BWCAW, but instead of canoeing you hike. Some parts of the trail are busy, like the section near Split Rock, but most are very quiet. You're also a lot closer to civilization at all times too. The trail is well maintained and very well marked, I backpacked a few days on it last summer.

Here's a map to look for more park ideas if you need.

Manhattanites have always considered Brooklyn to be something of a wilderness, but it may still come as a surprise to learn that you can actually camp thereâand weâre not talking about sleeping on the sidewalk. This abandoned-airport-turned-national-park in Marine Park has room for about 100 campers, each site with a fire pit and picnic tableâand not much else. (It may be the only place in New York City where holes in the ground are considered acceptable bathroom facilities.) Itâs a little slice of serenityâ¦with bonus noise from JFK-bound planes that occasionally fly nearby!
Price: $50 per campsite for a three-night stay.
Getting there: Take the 2 or 5 train (at rush hour) to Flatbush Avenue and transfer to the Rockaway Parkâbound Q35 bus. Call 718-338-3799 for reservations.

Answer
what part of the state will you be going to?
there are several great places to camp in the cortez, mancos area of the state. ( close to the four corners yet still in the san juan range) Joe moore is great for fishing and hiking and they have bathrooms without showers. and the best part is it's totally free to camp there! just a few miles from the towns of mancos and dolores.
if you like kayaking or canoeing then a camp spot in durango would be you best bet. most spots are level enough for a good sized tent no matter which area you go to. some are very low cost to free in price so you girls will have more money for snacks and drinks!
you mentioned the dirtyness of camping, yeah it can be a little bothersome but if you let that stop you you'll never be able to enjoy the outdoors. a couple of tips for keeping dirt out of the tents and sleeping bags; do not wear your shoes/ boots inside the tent take them off before you go inside. if you do get some dirt inside be sure to sweep it out as soon as you notice it.
happy camping kids!

What are the chances of seeing a mountain lion? I have seen bears and know to keep my distance(and my .44mag close) from them. But I would love to see a mt lion. How hard is it to spot one?

Answer
In my 50+ years of hiking the wilderness I have never seen a mountain lion in the wild. They are the most elusive of the predator family. Protection for bears ie pepper spray works just as well on Mt. lion or so I have been told.

The key to to being bear/mountain lion safe is to be aware and keep a clean camp. Wear bright colors so wildlife can see you coming, make noise and wear dinner bells, I mean bear warning bells keep you pepper spray in an easy to reach location and know how to use it. You camp should have all the food stuffs stored in a bear proof container 100 yds away from your tent and where you eat should be away from your tent as well clean everything before bed and make sure nothing is left out that would attract bears or mountain lion. When your out hiking look for tracks and bear or lion scat it will have bits of bright colored cloth and bells in it with the smell of pepper spray.

good luck!

desert camping requirements?

hey there........im planning to go camping overnight in the desert with a few friends in the winter.....what would the essential requirements be? im talking about an arabian desert......im 16,and my friends' ages are 17,19,19, and 20.....as of now we're planning to do some BBQ-ing, and apart from that we're planning to take a tent and sleeping bags, loads of water, some first aid and food,a boombox, spare clothes, a handycam,an ice box for beers ,and a couple of biker chains and the like (just in case...itz the desert!!)...............we're gonna be taking a 4WD like a cadillac escalade or a dodge ram or durango.........

so what else do you think we should take? and what kinda stuff should we look out for? what kinda stuff poses danger in the desert?

and one more thing....this is a question for the xperienced campers........what do u do when u wanna go the toilet?? LOL.....serious answers only!! thanx

Answer
I live in the American southwest, so I can speak to my experience here.

Take plenty of water and/or water filter if there's a source nearby
Take warm clothing because the desert gets cold at night
Watch out for scorpions, rattlesnakes and spiders
Don't be in exposed areas during thunderstorms because lightning is a real danger
Don't spend much time in dry riverbeds if there are storm clouds on the horizon
Take protection against the sun: hat, sun glasses, clothing
Take a scarf for each of you

Take the following survival items:
- whistles
- short wave radio and/or long range walkie talkies
- flares
- topographic map, compass and GPS
- good hunting knife
- signalling mirror
- extra rope

If your truck breaks down and you have to hike to the nearest town, then you'll need backpacks to carry your survival items and food.

The biggest danger in the desert is dehydration. The next biggest is getting lost.

One more thing: if you're going to spend much time walking around - I recommend long boots to protect your feet and lower legs from cactus, snakes, rocks, etc.

Removable hanging divider to separate rooms
126 sq. ft. of floor space
11mm and 9.5mm shock-corded fiberglass poles
77Hx120Wx180D"

I am making a tent into a clubhouse type of thing and there are 6 kids. A 12, 11, 9, 8, 6, 5 year olds are going to be in the tent. Obviously I am getting more than 1 tent and I might connect them some how. Both these tents are 2 rooms. Also, Greatland tent is $159.99 and the Coleman Durango Tent is $99.99. Both the tents are from target and you can look them up to see what they look like.
Thank you.

Answer
Well, it's really not going to matter in the long run. Neither of these tents will last very long as they're not known for making the best tents. After a few uses you'll most likely discover leaks and tears. Besides, 6 kids + tent is going to be rough on the tent. So you'll probably want to spend the least amount of money this time around.

best tent for bike camping image

Kevin

The distance between the two is 226 kms. Can the trip be made in two days, given that we train before-hand? Should we invest in saddle bags so we do not tire ourselves out with the weight of our stuff on our backs? We would need to bring clothes, sleeping bags and a small tent.
We aren't traveling city centre to city centre, but we will be traveling on the roads that connect the two cities. We plan to make our way down the north side of the Saint Lawrence until we reach Trois-Riveres, then we will continue down the south side.

Answer
I've ridden from Ottawa to Montreal (about 220 km) in one day, so 2 days should be quite possible for QC to Montreal.

That said, the actual distance will vary with your route and start/stop point, but may be greater than the 226 km you suggest, traveling with gear will be slower and more tiring than on a bare bike, you may be fighting significant headwinds along the river, and if loaded touring more than about 100-125 km in one day can be tough (Many riders plan on more like 80-100)..

I've done 'credit card touring" for 3-4 day trips of up to 150 km/day with just what I could carry in a handlebar pack and on a rear rack (Today, I'd use a rack pack), so depending on how much gear you plan to take you may not need to invest in panniers (See 1st link for some choices). If it were me, I'd consider what panniers (or other equipment) cost and unless I planned to tour regularly I'd suggest that a night in a motel would be less expensive (and allow for much lighter and faster riding).

If you do decide to camp consider what you REALLY need. Going without a tent (e.g. using a hammock with waterproof cover and netting or a bivy sack) can cut weight, and while more expensive than panniers initially can be used in all types of outdoor trips (canoeing, hiking, cycling).

Don't ever plan to do a trip of any length carrying a backpack (except maybe a hydration pack) ... it's just too uncomfortable.

See the 2nd link for maps and suggestions re route.

My family and I are looking for a great place to camp in California. We love being surrounded by redwoods, but would like to stay near central California (close to where we live). Yosemite is booked and we have stayed at the KOA in Santa Cruz and liked it. Does anyone have any other suggestions on great places for a family with young children?

Answer
Good evening AJ,

I hope you are having a great day. AJ, it is very hard to pick out a good location if I do not know what type camping you mean? Do you like tent, cabin, or sleeping bags? I like rough areas with fly fishing and hiking. I made three (3) trips last year into the Mighty High Sierras Mountains. I usually hike over Kearsarge Pass, which is an old Indian trail, to Bull Frog at 10,000 feet. I have been camping and hiking the Sierras since 1958.

I remember as kids we would lie in our sleeping bags and count shooting stars all night. Your mind would run amok with the wonders and vastness of space. You could point out and view constellations which until then were part of chapters in a school text book. We would fall asleep viewing the heavens and our own Milky Way.

http://www.naturalbornhikers.com/KearsargePass/KearsargePass.htm

Some of my best camping trips were with my family as a kid in Yosemite. We could not wait to see the fire falls at night (website below). I feel so sorry for people like you and your family, especially the kids. The fire falls stopped in 1968. Today, you must have an appointment for two years in advance to get a camping spot. The crowds are unbelievable, times change.

What are some fun things I should do this summer?

I am going stir-crazy in my house with all the snow outside, and I'm making a list to make sure summer 2010 is the best summer ever. I will be 19 years old by the time summer rolls around, I live in Michigan, and I have a boyfriend. What are some fun things I should add to my list to make sure this is the best summer ever!1!1121 ?

Answer
Haha, I'm SO excited for summer!
I'm in Wisconsin and just had a bunch of snow. Ugh.
I love snow, but it's just...
...UGH.

Things to do?
- rent a cabin or build a tent and camp with your bf.. (*tisk tisk* ....Just kidding... x3) or friends or family.. or all. The more people, the cheaper it will be to rent a cabin. (you can all split the rent... log cabin near a lake? Gah. I love it. I want to do that badly. ;_;)

-Go swimming in the lake (by a beach, of course)

-Set up a net and play volleyball/racketball with friends, family, and your BF

-Go to a public pool.

- Go for walks

-Hang out at a park (I'm 16 and go to parks with my friends all the time, haha.)

Where can I find cheap camping in Southern California with Toilets and Showers?

MthrNature

I was just looking at Silverwood Lake. They want $35-$45 just to pitch a tent. Then I know I'm going to be over run with RV's with generators till 10PM. This is very frustrating. I could find some cheap motel and a lot more privacy for that.

Where can I find inexpensive camping in Southern California that doesn't charge cheap motel prices for tent sites but offers good bathrooms and showers?

Answer
Your options are limited to whats available going rates for general camp sites in the so cal area are $20+ a few can be found at under $20 on the outskirts of so cal in the desert regions and if your willing to primitive camp at a dispersed area the cost would be the annual parking pass $5 a day $30 for the year.

Near Silver-wood lake in the back country along 2N33 or pilot rock road a 4WD route you can camp anywhere along it's route with the pass.

North of Silver-wood lake is Apple-white campground in the lytle creek area $10-15 a night no showers though.

Some private parks in the area such as Mountain lakes resort are even higher than Silver-wood lake.

Supply and demand drives the price of full service campgrounds way up and only a handful in the so cal public parks have showers, these all are $25+ a night. It is still cheaper than a hotel and I challenge you to find any in the area that are less than $50 a night. Cabin rentals in the area are triple that per night.

What are some good places to camp on a trip from San Francisco to San Diego?

BB

I'm going to be traveling by car from San Francisco to San Diego over the course of a week and a half, camping in a tent along the way. Since I have a week to make this trip, it doesn't matter if I take a roundabout route (for example, going inland all the way to the Sierra Nevadas wouldn't bother me).

What are some good places for me to camp on the trip? I prefer to be as secluded as possible, to get away from it all. Also, the cheaper the better!

Thanks!

Answer
As I see it, you have 2 choices: Beach route or inland route. Doing both would take you a lot more than a week.

If you want to head inland, you can always take off from S.F. and head to Lake Tahoe. It is about 5 hours to drive. Then, I'd head south into Yosemite. Your only downfall about these two places is that it is summer and you might be hard-pressed to find a campsite. NO JOKE--in Yosemite Valley you usually have to reserve a campsite 6 months in advance. You might have more luck finding sites that are outside the park. (From Lake Tahoe to Yosemite, take highway 395) After Yosemite you could either stick with the 395 and head to Death Valley, then Interstate 10 to Joshua Tree. You could also leave Yosemite on the 120 and head to Interstate 5, which can take you to places like King's Canyon and Sequoia National Park, and then into the LA area.

If you wanted to go the beach route, skip the 1 (it will take much, much more than a week) and go on the 101. It gives you easy access to Santa Cruz, Monterrey, Big Sur, and San Simeon (Hearst Castle is a must see!), Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara, The Santa Monica Mountains (you can hike there to see where the show MASH was filmed), Hollywood, and then to Interstate 5 which will drive down the Southern California coast and into San Diego.

My husband and I have done these trips many times and they are fabulous either way. It just depends on what you want to see. The coastal route offers many beach sites to camp. For a good reference on camping, I would recommend the book "California Camping;" that's our Bible.

Have fun!!!!

Answer
I don't know about the UK but in America, tickets are around $50. You could just look it up.
You can find the bands that are playing online, too.
You don't have to camp...I don't think anyone does, but get there early in the morning if you want. Even if you get there right when doors open, it doesn't really matter since it's a festival.
It lasts from like 11AM-10PM.
It's all ages.
Yeah, they have signings all the time at the tents, and if you're lucky, sometimes you can see them just walking around the venue.

Download Festival 2012?!?

Kallon

Hey Guys, So I want to go to This Year's Download Festival, and I was on the website looking at the line-ups.
I was really happy when I saw that Metallica are head-lining, but I was wondering something.
Its written like this:

Saturday 9th June
METALLICA performing the legendary black album in all its entirety
BIFFY CLYRO
TENACIOUS D
Steel Panther
Trivium
Black Veil Brides
Saxon
As I Lay Dying

And, the ones I seriously want to see are Metallica and Black Veil Brides, so I want to know if I bought the 3 Night Camping Ticket to see Metallica, would I also be able to go and see Black Veil Brides and the other listed artists without question?

Other Minor Stuff I was Wondering:
Is Download safe?
Is there an Age Limit?
Do the listed Artists play every day?

Answer
That list you've just written is the Saturday lineup for the Main Stage. You could save lots of money and just get a day ticket for saturday instead of going for the whole three days (unless of course you want to go for three days). When you get there you just get given a wrist band that you show each time you go into the arena to prove you're allowed to be there. If you just got a day ticket your wristband would just be a different colour and so you could only get into the arena on the *saturday* if you had a saturday wristband.

Safe? There's security everywhere, but obviously there's a lot of drink and drugs in circulation, and the crowds can get rowdy so most people go home with a few bruises. You can pay to rent a locker to keep your valuables in if you don;t trust people not to rob your tent.

The age limit is six years old. You probably have to be 16+ to go without an adult.

Like I said, those artists are the saturday lineup, different bands play on friday and sunday. If you look at the lineup, he first list is friday, the one in the middle is saturday (the one you listed) and the one on the right is sunday. http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/line-up/

What are good non-expensive tent camping places in Northern California?

My husband and I love to camp, but we are new to the northern California area, and don't know any good places around the Sacramento/Grass Valley area. We are looking for something under $10 a night. We don't mind roughing it, so even if its out in the middle of nowhere, but its a good place to camp near a lake or stream it would be awesome to know of. Thanks!

Answer
Welcome to Kalifornistan! It's a land of many wonders and blunders. the first being that campground fee's have doubled in the last few years mainly at state parks and national parks. There are still a few $10 and less spots and even fewer free ones. Weekends around your area the most popular sites get reserved 6 months in advance. Now don't lose hope of finding a site there are just as many non reservable sites too you just have to be the early bird to catch the site, by early I mean a couple of days early by thursday no later if you want to stay through the Weekend. Popular spots are the lakes and rivers that are around you and tops is Folsom lake and the rivers above and below that. The National forests around you are also great destinations and that's where you will find the most luck of getting a spot for the weekend. They also have what is called dispersed camping where you head out a forest road and find your own spot or what is called a yellow post site. These are free with the cost of an adventure pass $5 a day $30 for the year.

Google map to see what state parks and forests are closest to you and then look up their web page, check for campground listings and you will find which ones are reservable and which are first come. Here is a link to help you find public and private campgrounds in your area,

How do you keep spiders from crawling and stayin on your tent?

kimsanjuli

Just took my tent down from a weekend of camping and I had spiders covered on the top of my tent. Is there anything that I can put on it to keep the spiders from taking up residence?

Answer
hi there, here is a little trick i use when bothered by spiders, get a hand full of fresh mint leaves, steep them in hot water for a couple hours then spray them on and around your tent, for some reason, many small critters, like spiders ,silverfish ,cockroaches, ants ,do not like the strong smell of mint, but people love it

Not sure if open camping is a common phrase, but I am wondering where I can go camping in Maryland without having to camp in a campground. While I was in WV/PA area for college, there were plenty of places that not only allowed but encouraged just going to a state forest, walking several miles into the forest and pitching a tent. Most of the state parks and state forest I see in Maryland mention campgrounds. So are there any good open camping site in Maryland, preferably by the bay?

we don't like camping right next to our cars or other campers

Answer
Hickory Run State Park has some good remote tenting sites. I camped there years ago in the dead of winter, on a near-zero degree night, and it was awesome (of course, NO one was around at that time!)
