Are there any beaches closer to Los Angeles than Pismo Beach, CA to go camping?

Not camping with an RV, more like car camping and then pitching a tent for over night close to the beach.

Are there any closer to Los Angeles that offer the same?

I'm sure Carpinteria State Beach may seem to be worth your time to do some research on. It's MUCH CLOSER to Los Angeles than Pismo Beach.

I'm looking to rent a teardrop trailer or a pop-up camper in the Los Angeles area, any suggestions?

There haven't been any in the LA area for awhile now. There used to be a place out in Ventura, but it's gone now.

The only place I can find now that rents tent trailers is the Camper and Trailer Outlet. http://www.camping-trailers.com/rentals.htm is located in Santa Ana. There isn't much money in renting tent trailers, so they also sell them.
