Best area in North Carolina for outdoor activities?

Hi, I live in South Florida and would like to drive up to North Carolina for a few days. I love outdoor activities like biking, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking etc. All of it! What's the perfect city to do all of this?
Also, is it recommended to rent a cabin, or something of the like? The amount of money I have to spend is a little limited. I wouldn't want to spend more than a couple hundred for the weekend.

I'm not familiar with North Carolina but I'm an outdoors man. I found this website:

Have a look at google maps once you figure out what you're going to do and make the best decision. If you don't have camping gear I'd say rent a cabin but if you own a tent and the necessary equipment to camp out I'd stay in a tent, it's much cheaper per night compared to a cabin.

Water and bug proof storage container for camping gear?

I am looking for an inexpensive storage container I can leave at an area my friends and I go camping at. We will store a tent,sleeping bags, some chairs, and other misc. camping stuff. It needs to be bug and water resistant because we are going to leave it there in the middle of the woods. I live in florida so its pretty buggy and rainy. If you know of any good ones please give me a link, Thank you.

A friend of mine got a few big blue barrels for storage, of the type that industrial liquids are sometimes shipped in... Google 'big blue barrel' if you don't know what I'm talking about... They are made to hold liquids without leaking, so if properly re-sealed they will keep water out... He floats one on a rope behind his canoe with extra gear in it... Ask around or look online to see if any factory near you is giving away/selling for cheap any of these...

Just make sure they've been properly cleaned out...
