camping at Yosemite Park, CA?

I'm trying to get some info for The Yosemite National Park, and i was wondering if someone could help me with some terms:

a) what is the difference between "campground" and "campsite" ?
b) what does it mean Rv-Full hookup and RV-non hookup?
c) RV Site - Pull-thru - Water/Electric: why it is specified "water/electric"?
d) Campsite - Tent only - No hookups: what it means "No hookups"? Is this necessaryy for camping?

A.....campsite is where you put your tent, campground is everybody else's campsite.
B...Rv-full hookup...is water/electric, rv-non hookup doesn't have anything
C....call them...probably just a regular hookup\
D....no rv service...just tent only....plus I don't think there is any sewer hookup......enjoy

Can you camp anywhere in Yosemite National Park?

I know you can get camping permits for trailheads and you may also camp at camp sites, but me and a few buddies want to go into the woods and just hang out for a couple of days. do we need anything for that??

To quote from the website, (See link) " Overnight camping of any type (tent, vehicle, or RV) outside designated campgrounds is not permitted", so, that would be a resounding "NO!" You don't need anything for that, because you WON'T BE DOING that.

Where could we go camping in Yosemite National Park?

We are a large group. approx 30 people.
We want to be near a river or a lake. Also be able to make fire and grill. Tent only.

There are lots of places to go, and they ALL fill up quick. We are going to Yellowstone this year, we got reservations in the park for July back in November.

We stayed outside Yosemite in Groveland, at a place called Yosemite Pines RV Park, they did accept tent campers as well. Groveland is just outside a Yosemite entrance.

They did have large groups when we were there plus free WIFI.

Has anyone been interior / wildreness camping at Yosemite National Park?

Q. I've got 1 night booked at a drive-in tent site (everything else is booked) and we have 4 more nights to fill at Yosemite. I know there's endless places to see at this place. I don't really know how it works in this park (we're coming from BC, never been to Yosemite before) does anyone have any tips / pointers / certain places you think are great for interior camping? Thanks!

Try the Ten Lakes loop off Highway 120, Tioga Pass, start at the Ten Lakes Trailhead loop up and around Mt. Hoffman and come out at May Lake .

Do the Grand Canyon of the Toulumne, Toulumne Meadows down the canyon and climb out to White Wolf.

Start from Hetch Hetchy up to Lake Vernon and loop back through Tiltill Valley and past Rancheria Falls.

These are 3 good hikes that will make you feel like you did something and have a lot less traffic than trails originating in Yosemite Valley.

If you really want to be remote in Yosemite Park you can trailhead from the Shingle Springs Trailhead {also known as the Kibbie Lake Trailhead} on the east side of Cherry Lake in the very Northwest corner of the Park and go out Kibbie Ridge to Boundary Lake, or drop down into Cherry Creek Canyon at Lord Meadow and spend some time in the southern Emigrant Wilderness where there are even fewer people.

There are several campsites in Yosemite; some more accessible than others. The main camp in is in the Valley at Curry Village, and it's CROWDED. There are also 5 camps in the High Sierras that are reached by hiking and White Wolf Lodge off of Tioga Pass Road. These places all have tenting facilities (the tents are there) and are more expensive than hiking with your backpack and tent. There are 13 campgrounds that you can reach by hiking, and are of different levels of difficulty to reach. You must reserve a site by going to http://reservations.nps.gov. Yosemite is so beautiful, it's impossible to say which is the best (except stay away from Curry Village - it's just too crowded) For more information on camping to www.yosemite.com. Have fun

Are there any good guided camping trips through Yosemite National Park?

My room mate and I want to do a week long trip out to Yosemite National Park. We want to do a guided camping trip for part of it that includes hiking, site seeing, and camping (tents). Does anyone have any recommendations about a good site that will help us plan our trip or provide a guided trip?

what does a single person do when camping?

I am older person with 2 small dogs and want to camp. I tent camp for now and feel at a loss once I get to the camp site. I set everything up, read for a while, then draw. I take the dogs for a walk and come back and eat. I can't go on the tours, visit shops (Yosemite), no dogs allowed. I've tried to find other women who like to camp for over 2yrs-no one wants to go camp. What does one do when camping?

I'm not single but I do enjoy camping alone if I don't have someone that wants to go with me. I'm generally out hiking and mountain biking during the day even though it's best to not go alone. I generally go somewhere other than a national park so I can take my dog.

I love taking photos when I'm out and then spend the evening going through them on the laptop. You should give photography a try. You can find interesting flowers, bugs, rocks, etc right in camp. You don't need a fancy camera. Having an eye for a good shot is more important than the camera. I've had magazines use photos I took with a little point and shoot that fits in my pocket.

Other then tent camping, the housekeeping cabins at Curry village would be the least expensive. The are soft sided tents with picnic tables near them. In the winter they also have some with heaters. All you bring is you linens or sleeping bags, you own food or eat out and your personal items. The next less expensive place to stay would be Yosemite lodge which is like a decent motel right in the village. My favorite hike is on happy isle trail or some call it the mist trail up to Vernal falls. If you can't make it all the way up, you can get a great view of the falls at the 1/2 mile mark. Another thing to do is to hop on the free shuttle and get off wherever you want. it takes you all around the valley floor. For a more expansive tour the valley floor tour is pretty good too.
