Info on tents? Need a decent one, for a low price!?

GreenPeace

So I've been googling reading up on tents, because I'm going to a festival next weekend and need to get one. There are some in tesco and Dunne's stores but none of them seem very decent, also I've read a few bad reviews....

I basically just want to keep out the rain indefinitely!

So I found one on the argos website for a reasonable price considering it comes with two sleeping bags :)
It has a 2000mm hydrostatic head, will that keep the rain out?

Where can I buy a tent in budapest.?

Joe

Hi. Im currently in krakow and moving onto budapest then croatia. We've decided to camp in croatia so need to purchase a tent as cheap as possible.. Say around £20-30

I know, theres a tesco in budapest but don't know if it sells tents. could anyone please tell me if they do, or anyother shop you know of.

Yhank you in advance for the answers.

Joe

Answer
There are many shopping malls in Budapest, almost everywhere. A big one is underground at the Nyugati metro station. There are many shops selling everything down there, I remember seeing luggage and backpacks, so a tent is very possible. It's central and easy to get to.

But more specifically, I know there is a camping store on Raday Utca not far from the Kalvin Ter Metro stop. I never went in it, but I know it's there. It's inbetween the Kalvin Metro and Matyas Utca. On the left side. It's small and hidden by resturants and cafes so you have to look.

Nyugati and Kalvin are on the same Metro line only about 5 stops apart, so it easy to go in between.

WHERE CAN I FIND A 5/6 MAN POP UP TENT FROM THE UK?

Ella blu S

In desperate need of a quick pitch/easy erect/pop up tent for 5/6 people in the uk.

Can anyone send me a link? I have tried and failed to find any and desperately need one. Price is not an issue.

THANK YOU! :D

Answer
It would be best to visit a local camping / outdoors shop, preferably a large one with the space to pitch some of the tents. The following chains have shops, and also online sales:

Tiso:
http://www.tiso.com

Blacks:
http://www.blacks.co.uk

Millets:
http://www.millets.co.uk

You can also find tents in general retailers, but you won't see them pitched or get advice.

Ok im going to england for a couple of days and my mom and I are going shopping so i only need one other pair of clothes! what else will i need. I have the basics in my head but, i want things I could forget

Answer
Hello Dear!
1. Bring along your own washcloth (assuming you normally use one) -- most places I've stayed in UK don't supply them. Put it in a zip-lock bag so you can carry it "wet."
2. Why long-sleeve dress shirts? How about one nice long-sleeve pullover sweater or turtleneck that would go on top of anything to provide both warmth and nicer appearance.
3. Chargers for electronics: Remember (at the least) a high-quality "transformer" type electrical adapter, because UK uses 220V and a much different plug than US. I've had poor luck with adapters personally but perhaps another reader has a tested recommendation. Ditto your electric razor! Probably better off with disposables for that.
4. I assume you have enough memory cards for the camera that you won't have any download issues along the way. I took 800+ digital snaps on my last 3-week tour of UK, took along a freestanding digital storage device so I could dump cards as needed.
5. Also assuming you are sure your cell phone will work in UK -- even if it's theoretically capable, I'd contact cell provider ahead to time to make sure there's nothing extra to be done.
6. I also like to contact my credit card company ahead of time, tell them to expect charges from UK during the time period.
I've never traveled on an organized tour so I'll hold my thoughts on underwear washing ) Above all, have a great time! And wear your sunscreen LOL
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Accept that the UK has unpredictable weather and pack clothes which you wear in layers. That way, you won't get caught out when the temparature suddenly plummets or (occasionally) soars! Waterproofs are vital whenever you visit, of course.

Toiletries & Medical Supplies: You can buy most toiletries easily, at chemists or supermarkets, so there's no need to carry extra supplies.

Photo Equipment: Memory cards are easy to find in electrical/photography shops and larger supermarkets. Buy films from chemists and some newsagents, but they are much cheaper from supermarkets, who also sell discounted packs of 3 or more. Supermarkets are also cheaper for toiletries and basic medicines (e.g. paracetamol, cough medicine etc).

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Make sure your tent is fully waterproof......and that your sleeping bag is a warm one!

Miscellaneous: The major supermarkets ... Tesco, Sainsbury's, Safeway, Asda, Morrisons........have their own websites so you can google for your nearest branches and opening times.

Good Luck!

Anyone ever do this or have some tips and suggestions on how to do this? Easy ways to make some money while over there? cheap ways to travel? Is it safe to bring a tent and just camp out where we end up if we find a nice scluded area? Any animals over there that we run the risk of getting eating by? Buying cheap bikes there? Anyhting that could be of value to our trip?

Some general info: It will be me, 19, and my buddy, 21, on the trip. We will be gone for 6 months. We will land in Ireland and then go to Scotland, England, Amsterdam, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Thailand, and Egypt. We already have rounded up all travel expenses including passports and visas and have that money saved and stored away. We will probably bring about $3,000-$5,000 with us for the trip and we are not afraid to rough it.

Don't be rude and tell us we are wasting time and money, I don't see travelling and gaining life experience as wasteful. We are going, we are just asking for a little advice.

You can bring a tent if you find a place, a camping area to stay in advance. I dont think youd want to end up sleeping in a tent at Tescos parking lot! :p
You might want to consider some cheap hotels, and I would definitely recommend finding some in sdvance in case there arent any camping areas around.
Most of the bigger cities are... well... big and you ma not be able to find a nice camping place.
There are cheap bikes to buy, but you should maybe check on-line to see the general prices.
The countries that you are going to visit dont have large unemployment rates as far as I know, but Im not so sure about people wanting to hire some traveller theyve never seen before. However, you might get lucky. Actually, its very probable that in 6 months youll find 2-3 jobs at least. that is, if you try a bit harder to find them.
Just a tip: if you want to buy anything, from souvenirs to samdwiches, do not do it in the city centres because its usually more expensive there.
Enjoy your trip!
p.s. and definitely get those travellers dictionaries, with the main phrases in more than one language. Especially Spain and France! Not mny people speak English there.

I'm going to be camping @ Glastonbury festival & need list of essential items I'll need to take, can you help?

claire w

It'll be my first time camping at a festival, and I don't wanna pack too heavy, though I want to have the best experience I can... any help from those who've been there and done it would be really appreciated... thanks!:)

Answer
Speaking as a 4 times Glastonbury veteran :)

You will need black bin bags, lots of them, use them as a door mat to your tent, as shoes and tie one around your waist so you can sit on the (muddy) ground. They are also useful for chucking rubbish / dirty clothes in.

You want to bring a big water container, the taps are always busy, so you will have some water by your tent. Bring a small water bottle for when you are out and about.

Food! You want to bring dry food that has lots of sugar in it for energy. Mints usually do the job for me.

Stay away from the burger vans, not only is there food hideously over-priced, but you want to spend as little time as possible in the loos!

There is a stall round by the other stage i think, they sell 'Welsh Oggies' it was 2 for a fiver in 2005 and they are massive.

Money. Like i said food is expensive, beer was £3 last time and then there are all the stalls. I would take about £100 - £200 to the festival, and hide it well. Under your tent is works well, put it in a plastic bag (water tight). If you don't feel comfortable with that amount of cash, then there are cash machines on site, you want to go either early in the morning (6 - 8am) or during the headliners, then there won't be such a queue.

If you smoke then bring A LOT of cigarettes, 100 minimum, you'll be surprised how quickly they will disappear.

Drugs :) apparently the best way to get around the sniffer dogs is to pack your drugs in a water tight bag, put it in a flask and pour coffee over it, but i guess you'll be alright if you just stuff them in a sock and put it in the bottom of your sleeping bag. It is usually quite busy at the gate and i've never been searched.

Alcohol :) Your best bet is to buy some spirits and mixers from Tesco, then drink about 1/3 of the mixer bottle and fill with spirits. (Depends how strong you want it). Remember beer will make you piss like a donkey ;)

Then you really just have the usual,

Tent,
Sleeping bag
Ground mat
Toothbush
Toothpaste
Wet wipes for general hygiene.
Deodorant etc...

You will need a small torch and a lighter for night times.

Although you can never be sure of the weather metcheck have a preliminary forecast over here http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/event_forecast.asp?eventID=107
But it is changing all the time, and in 2005 they predicated 'light showers' so i wouldn't put too much faith in them. :)

Remember your wellies :)

And don't forget to watch

The Fratellis ~7/8pm Pyramid Stage Friday
The Killers ~10pm Pyramid State Saturday
The New Pornographers ~3/4pm John Peel Stage Friday

Full line up is here
http://music.guardian.co.uk/glastonbury2007/lineup/page/0,,2092349,00.html

Also remember there is more the glasters than just the bands, take an afternoon off and stumble around the green fields. :)

And finally don't worry if you forget something, your neighbours will usually be friendly and let you borrow whatever you need (-: usually a hammer :-)

======Edit====
Also they are saying don't bring loo roll this year, because they are giving away free recycled ones
