I am 23 and I am looking for a camp site for spring break. I would like one that isn't too family oriented, because we are looking to party. We're not super wild or anything, but we do like to drink and sing ;) I would also prefer, but not necessary, a lake or river to swim at.

Fall Creek Falls in TN. Good campground, not supposed to drink there, but everybody does anyway. Great lake there where you can rent boats and fish and relax. Great hiking trails down to a waterfall. Super nice people. Everybody that goes there is super mellow, so it was great to relax. There was an old guy across from our campsite, drinkin and playin johnny cash and waylon jennings songs on the guitar. Your camping neighbors all stop by and say hi and expect you to do the same. When you do they offer up a beer and a hot dog. As a notherner, I was impressed with all the southern hospitality. Its close to this cumberland caves place. The tour is amazing and the seeing the cave is a great way to cool off and escape the heat in summer. The road to get there is dirt and one lane, and all the farmes wave to you as you drive past.
+When camping, I try to pick a spot next to people my age (I'm only a few years older than you), or mellow retired folks without kids and a nice camper. That way you can hang out and drink with the people your age, and if your next to old people with a nice camper instead of a tent 1) they can't hear anyway
2) This is especially true in a camper with the AC running.
3) You don't have to worry about their little brat rug-rats being all loud and sh-t when your hung over the next morning. Old people just tend to wake up and sit in their camp chairs and drink coffee.
This is just my experience. Camping can be great or crappy depending on how your neighbors are.

Is there anywhere to rough-it-camp in Tennessee?

Collin

I cant find anywhere to camp that isnt in an actual "campground". Im wanting to just head into the woods with a backpack and tent and camp for a few days. I dont own any land so does anyone know where to rough it in middle tennessee? Ive looked into the smokey mountains 7 day hike but i think you have to stay in those houses. Is that true or can you tent camp too?

Answer
There is wilderness camping in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You are restricted to specific areas so you don't damage the natural areas, but it isn't like a normal campground. Take a look at

for more information.
