We are driving to oregon. Want to know if there is any good campsites on the ocean? Needs to be for a large tent. Preferably anywhere between lincoln city and seaside.

Answer
Most of the state parks on that part of the coast have nice campgrounds which do a classic balance between being natural against having basic development. The showers have hot water, and there are enough restrooms throughout the campground. There is running water within a few hundred feet of every campsite, and each has a fire ring and a place to park a vehicle.

Don't expect to see the ocean from the campsiteâthere are only a few campgrounds where that's possible and I think they're all south of Florence (such as Tillicum). But the campground is within walking distance of the beach or headlands. OSPRD campgrounds have a variety of campsites, from bicycle/tent camping to large groups (like 50+ people). While you might be lucky just driving in and finding one, on weekends in May a reservation is definitely needed, and especially beginning in June for weekdays. See this list and sort it by region to be of greatest use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Oregon_state_parks

There are two campgrounds in Newport, and one each near Tillamook, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, and Lincoln City.

If you're more adventurous, it is legal to camp on Oregon's coastal beach provided:
* not adjacent to city limits, and
* not within sight of a house
* not prohibited by signage
* not between Manzanita and the Neahkahnie Mountain (Tillamook County)
* not between Seaside and the Columbia River (Clatsop County)

Actually, I don't see anywhere in the statute the prohibition about being in sight of houses. Perhaps that's common courtesy. Note that nothing says "beach camping is okay". Also, there are frequently restrictions on campfires. Check with local authorities.

Canoeing or hiking in Oregon: best scenic routes?

BAH

Husband and I are looking to take a camping trip to Oregon. We want to go canoeing or hiking on the most scenic route possible. There are so many to investigate how can I plan this trip better? We want to tent camp too if possible. Any insight or helpful trip planning?

Answer
Highway 101 is a great road to take-it goes right along the coast and there are tons of little campgrounds lining it. There are great hikes all along 101 too.
Depending on when you visit, the coast can be cool and wet which is problematic for camping--June, July, August and into September are a bit warmer.

This website has some boating recreation options on it along 101: http://visittheoregoncoast.com/activities/lakes-and-reservoirs/

Hope this helps some, good luck on your trip!
