Okay, no i don't believe 2012 will happen at all. I'm generally talking about a case in which you would quickly have to get out of your house for whatever reason, and had time to grab your backpack and go. I live in the united kingdom so nothing involving tornados or earthquakes, just in a general emergency (or metaphorically if there was to be a 2012 doomsday)

What household things, nothing high tech would you pack?

freeze dried food or meals ready to eat (MRE's)
Pocket Knife
Compass
Map
Flint and striker (to start fires)
Camping mess kit
seeds (used as currency, or trade for supplies)
Small first aid kit
prescription meds
sunblock
sunglasses
hat
Clothing (camouflage would be best)
gun (self defense/hunting)
Tent
source of light either flashlight, battery or crank powered, And or propane lantern
There is so much more to take, but for survival these are just the basics
