looking for a spot to tent camp on the beach....in souther california?

I am looking for a beach in southern california to camp on the beach....like pitch a tent in the sand and camp out. We dont have an RV...does anyone know any beach that allows that? I dont want to camp on a BLUFF over seeing the beach...we want to actually stay on the beach.

any help would be very very appreciated....thank you!!!!

All beach campgrounds in southern california are by reservation only and were so 6 months ago. If you can find an open reservation, the only beach with camping on it is up the coast past Santa Barbara at Jalama Beach campground. In general it is illegal to camp "on the beach" in California.

I would like to purchase a light tent and a sleeping bag that I can carry on me for camping on California central/north coast (35-60F nights). What are the good brands/ types? My budget for this is $200.
